Jonah, the Master of Swords, plays a significant role in Rogue Legacy 2s story. But he’s also one of the primary bosses of the game, with a massive HP and deadly DPS. So, the big question for many beginner players is, how to beat Jonah? This guide offers an actionable strategy for that.

Where to Find Jonah?

To find Jonah, kill all the main Estuaries and head to Citadel Agartha. A golden door will show up that opens to the Garden of Eden, where Jonah resides. Once in the garden, head left until a snag (dead tree) appears on the horizon.

Jonah is a close-range boss. To beat him, stay away and exploit projectiles. Jonah has six attacks, with the deadliest being his Special. But his weakness is ranged moves, which players can use to defeat him.

Here’s how to counter all his attacks:

  • The Waiter's Bouncing Spoons. Avoid the spoons by backward dashing.
  • The Barbarian's Spinning Ax. Dodge by a normal or double jump.
  • The Delivery Man's Pizza. Spin-kick the floating pizzas to destroy them.
  • The Ranger's Volley of Arrows. Destroy the floating pizzas by spin-kick.
  • The Ronin's Dash. Void dash or get out the range to dodge.
  • The Jonah Special. Stay between the gaps in the lightning strikes.

How to Beat the Redeemed Jonah in NG+7?

During NG+7, Jonah becomes much more aggressive. To beat his Redeemed persona, choose a mid- or long-range class like Gunslinger or Ronin and drain his HP with Poison Bomb—or another comparable spell.

Remember, unlike other bosses such as Estuary Lamech, Jonah has no contact damage. So, one good strategy is to take advantage of critical dashes. Upgrading Dexterity is also a good idea, as it boosts critical damage (though it lessens the earned resources.)

What’s the Best Class for Defeating the Traitor?

Since Jonah mainly relies on physical damage, the best class to beat him is a mid- or long-range choice like Ronin or Boxer. The former is best for melee, thanks to the katana. But the latter is ideal for projectile attacks when combined with explosive gloves.

Rogue Legacy 2 is available now for Switch, Xbox, and PC.
