Long after massive hits like Rock Band and Guitar Hero faded out of the public spotlight, Rocksmith Remastered is finally facing retirement. In a recent blog post, the development team at Ubisoft announced that the latest DLC for the guitar-playing game would be its last.

Rocksmith initially released in 2011 and set itself apart from its competitors by using an actual guitar to control the game. This inventive gameplay allowed players to actually master the instrument. While the 2014 sequel built on the game's initial library, the developers continued to support it, regularly releasing DLC and even releasing a remastered version of the sequel as a free update for existing players in 2016.

In its statement, Ubisoft announced that the Rocksmith team had started working on a new project. In order to completely focus on that project, the developers would be ending DLC support of the game after 383 weeks of content. At the end of development, Rocksmith has 1570 songs available. While no more DLC will be released, Rocksmith's creators did say that they would continue to provide weekly content for fans with a new format for their weekly livestream, as well as "some more surprises." The developers ended by thanking their fans for "over a decade" of support within its creative community.

While it's incredibly sad to see Rocksmith Remastered go, it's good to know that the developers will be allowed to let their creation live on in the development stream and other content. Hopefully, Ubisoft will successfully infuse its next project with Rocksmith's creative spirit.

Rocksmith 2014 Remastered is available for Mac, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
