Rocket League developer Psyonix has announced Season 9, which brings along a new Fire and Ice theme. The game's ninth season is ready to roll out on December 7 with new additions to Rocket Pass, a new Arena variant, and a new Competitive Season. The game also welcomes the return of two limited-time events, Rocket League classics Frosty Fest and Neon Nights.

Rocket League is a hybrid game combining team sports, action shooters, and racing games. The game was announced in 2015 and has since been a competitive staple, especially with the addition of professional gameplay in the Rocket League Championship Series. The vehicular soccer with abilities pits two teams of up to four players against each other in a game of scoring. The aim is simple like in soccer: score more goals than the opponent. However, the means are completely different, thanks to supercharged vehicular acrobatics.

According to Psyonix, the new season of Rocket League will make several additions to the newly updated Rocket Pass. There's a new car Emperor, which shares the hitbox of Breakout. The muscle car Emperor can be acquired immediately through Rocket Pass Premium. For the first time ever, there will be four different versions of the new vehicle. In addition to Emperor and Emperor 2 there are going to be two Fire and Ice-themed Special Editions. These are called Emperor 2: Frozen and Emperor 2: Scorched.

The Fire and Ice theme of the new season will also include new theme-appropriate items in the Rocket Pass and a new Rocket League Arena variant full of Chinese mythicism called Forbidden Temple. The Forbidden temple features elemental dragons spitting fire and ice, guardian lion statues, and goal special effects that turn the arena into an inferno or freeze it with the power of a blizzard. There are two limited-time events that make a reappearance. Both Frosty Fest, a holiday-themed event, and Neon Nights, an event full of music, are making a comeback in Season 9. Psyonix promises more details on these later.

For those not looking to spend money on Season 9, it will include free items. Those include Crispy Turkey Topper, Lunchbox Topper, and Tickled Tomato Topper with a total of over 70 tiers of rewards. Competitive Rewards for the previous season, which are Player Banners with an animated graffiti effect, will be distributed after Season 9 commences. There are a total of eight different banners and an additional Grand Champion and Supersonic Legend titles for those that have achieved the rank. Season 9 of Rocket League will begin on December 7 at 8 am PST.

Rocket League is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
