Highlights

  • Season 14 of Rocket League brings new car bodies, an underwater arena, and music playlists.
  • Some fans are disappointed in the lack of new content in the latest Rocket League update.
  • The Rocket Pass offers customizable options for cars, but new content is limited to cosmetics.

Rocket League's underwater-themed Season 14 is now live and adds new car bodies, an Arena variant, and more to the enduring game. The initial reception to Rocket League's latest update has been a bit lukewarm, as fans claim that it's lacking in new content.

By now, most Rocket League fans have probably heard of Fortnite's Rocket Racing, a collaboration between Epic Games and Psyonix that brought Rocket League-like gameplay to Fortnite. Instead of squaring off on a miniature soccer pitch, Rocket Racing sees users race through various tracks while utilizing boosts, jumps, and other mechanics. Previous updates already allowed users to transfer various cars between the two games, a trend that this latest Rocket League update follows, sort of.

The two new car bodies in Season 14's Rocket Pass are the Admiral and Mako, which use the Dominus and Breakout's hitboxes, respectively. The update's patch notes confirm that both of these cars will be available in the future for cross-game ownership between Rocket Racing and Rocket League, but for now, they are limited to Rocket League. Season 14 also introduces the AquaDome (Salty Shallows) Arena, an underwater map that uses a lighter, sharkless tone than the original version. While playing the new edition of AquaDome, players will hear a playlist of lo-fi house music, including this season's theme, "Ghost" by Direct.

In terms of new content, that's about it for Rocket League's Season 14 update other than cosmetics. However, those who participate in Rocket League's Competitive modes will finally receive their rewards from last season, which include dynamic decals that sync to whatever in-game music the user is listening to. With Season 14's launch, a soft reset has been applied to all Competitive playlists, and Competitive Snow Day has been replaced with Competitive Dropshot. Psyonix also announced Season 14's Tournament rewards, which are laser-themed and include a goal explosion, laser beam boost, and laser trail.

Season 14's Rocket Pass adds new options for customizing Rocket League's cars by introducing the Fishscale Paint Finish, Kelp Antenna, Snorkel Mask Topper, Scale-Veil Decal, Atlantis Goal Explosion, and more. Like other seasons, users need to pay 1000 Credits (about $10) to unlock the Rocket Pass' premium reward track, which includes the bulk of Season 14's new cosmetics.

Rocket League fans who might be looking for a new game to try out have a decent amount of options. Rocket Soccer Derby is one of the more obvious choices, which basically cloned Rocket League's formula while trying to add some new twists.
