Sports games are usually built for die-hard fans of that world, with the causal players not heavily invested in them. However, since Rocket League dropped on the field, it has changed the landscape of sports games. Rather than focusing on realism, Rocket League trades that for fun. Additionally, going free-to-play has made Rocket League more appealing to players, as it is one of the better free-to-play games out there.

With the introduction of Season 4, there's a new causal mode called Mutator Madness. This turns the game on its head. There will be new settings, called the Mutators, during the match. These could be anything including unlimited boots, no gravity, or even a square ball. It makes Rocket League fresher and more unpredictable. Because it's a casual mode, it's easy to pick up and drop. The good news is that the skills that players have learned over the years still apply in this mode. So if players arm themselves with these tips, they'll become unstoppable.

5 Always Have At Least One Player Goal Keeping

Because of the unpredictable nature of Rocket League prior to Season 4, having one player in net is always a good idea. With the Mutator adding more pressure, teams should always have at least one person playing defense. Since the Mutators change up the dynamics, having the net protected becomes crucial. For example, if the game's Mutator involves the ball changing to something that could be harder to hit, the goalkeeper can potentially stop it.

One of the core reasons why players lose Rocket League matches is lack of trust in their teammates. But if players communicate, then no team members will have to worry about losing the ball. Being the last line of defense, the added pressure on goalies can make players lose focus. But if they are two steps ahead, they'll be able to plan moves earlier, allowing the rest of the team to support them.

4 Use Walls

This may seem hard for new players, but once they master the car controls, they'll be zipping by with ease. However, with Mutators that can change the physics of how the vehicles move, players will need to adapt quickly. Using walls is a great way to use against or for the opposing team. Players can use the wall to get away from opposing players, and if the gravity is turned off, kicking the ball up the wall forces the other team to chase it. This can give players and their team some breathing room.

If players are skillful in this area, they can use the walls to avoid the other players, allowing them to get to the net faster. It's also a great way for the ball holder to get distance, because the Mutators can make this easier for the opposing team to catch up. On top of that, players can use walls to escape in case things get too wild.

3 Learn To Utilize Boosting

This can make Rocket League either really fun to play, or super competitive. If the unlimited boost Mutator is active, gameplay becomes even more unpredictable. The main part of the boost, at the start, is getting to the ball first, and timing it as well. While players do this, they should keep an eye on their boost meter, unless the unlimited boost Mutator is active. There are many ways to get boost back, including sliding around, hitting other players, and getting the boost drops scattered throughout the field.

However, Rocket League changes when a Mutator is on. Unlimited boost will often allow players to score more easily. On top of that, boosting the opposing team players will cause them to explode. Because Rocket League's dynamic changes quickly, that three-versus-two aspects allow more goals to be scored. Even for a limited time, players should take advantage of one less opponent on the field.

2 Play On Weekends

Players who want to level up quickly should capitalize on weekend games. After each match in the Madness Mutator mode, players get to vote on sets of Mutators. The winning ones are picked on Fridays. The best part is that the ones selected will be the Mutators in place for the weekend, with Double XP. Rocket League does feature a battle pass, but players don't have to buy it since there are free awards littered throughout.

On top of that, if the Mutators that are selected are the ones the players like, Rocket League becomes more enjoyable. Plus while playing a match, players will get awarded for scoring, destroying another players, and assists. Playing Rocket League on the weekend means that all those things add up with the addition of the double XP.

1 Constant Flips

There are many ways for players to maneuver their vehicle around that don't involve keeping all wheels on the ground. From sideswipes to air rolls, there are a lot of things players can do to disorient the opposing team. Flips are also a great way to get around on the field and allow players to be more flexible, allowing players to change direction on a dime.

It also allows players to be more versatile in how they get the ball and how they pass it. If players are constantly flipping around, they become harder to hit. Plus it gives players a speed boost. It's also a great way for players to get the ball out of their zone more quickly, because they can put power into the flip as they accelerate.

Rocket League is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
