The Roccat Burst Pro Air is an exceptional wireless mouse that offers excellent gaming performance, a comfortable grip, and flashy RGB lighting that is sure to impress. Powered by Roccat's Owl-eye sensor, this budget mouse is accurate and quick enough for competitive play at a casual gaming price.

The Roccat Burst Pro Air doesn't come with a lot of accessories, but the included USB-C charging cable feels quite premium. Like many wireless mice, the included charging cable is braided, which is always lovely to see, but what sets Roccat's apart is how flexible it is once it comes out of the box. Many of these braided cables have kinks that take a while to get out, but the Roccat Phantom Flex cable was easy to unwrap and use right away while the mouse was charging.

Design and Features

The Roccat Burst Pro Air is a low-profile symmetrical mouse that can be used by right and left-handed gamers, regardless of their hand size or preferred grip type. At first glance, this mouse might seem very similar to many on the market, but besides the fantastic RGB lighting, where it shines is in the details.

The Burst Pro Air has a honeycomb design to help cut down on the weight, but instead of exposing the mouse's inside, there is frosted plastic over the top of the mouse. This makes the mouse less susceptible to damage from spilled drinks or sweaty hands and diffuses the RGB lighting, making it not so harsh.

Features

For a budget mouse, the Burst Pro Air is surprisingly packed with features that will impress most gamers. Starting with the weight, it comes in at 80.8 grams, which is not the lightest mouse out there, but it still falls into the ultra-lightweight range. Combined with the lightweight design, the rather larger PTFE feet create an incredibly smooth experience, whether it is on a mousepad or just a naked desk.

Roccat's Owl-Eye sensor is incredibly accurate. It supports up to 19,000 DPI, and users can fine-tune their preferred DPI settings through Roccat's customization software, Swarm. The titan switch for the left and right mouse click buttons is very snappy; each click feels responsive and has a mechanical feel. Plus, these switches are rated for 100 million clicks.

Comfort

Overall, the Burst Pro Air is incredibly comfortable, and because of its symmetrical design, this mouse can be used by right and left-handed gamers. However, for left-handed gamers, the side buttons are only on the left-hand side of the mouse, so they will be fairly inaccessible. This mouse should be comfortable for most gamers regardless of their hand size and preferred grip style, but because of the elongated shape, Game ZXC found that a palm grip tended to be the most comfortable for longer gaming sessions.

The Best Ergonomic Gaming Mouse in 2024

Gaming mice are fantastic for bleeding-edge performance, but ergonomics are not a focus. Find a mouse that is great for both ergonomics and games.

The sides of the mouse have a slight texture, which adds a bit of grip without being overbearing. As a gamer who regularly gets sweaty palms, this mouse didn't necessarily help with the sweat, but the material on the top of the mouse did not attract stains or get slippery in those clutch moments.

Gaming Performance

Bottom of the Roccat Burst Pro Air Mouse

Gaming-wise, the Burst Pro Air is an absolute joy. The click latency is very low, especially compared to other mice in this price range. For competitive FPS gaming, there was very little noticeable latency, whether it was wired or wireless. However, Game ZXC does not recommend using the Bluetooth connection unless the other two options are unavailable for some reason. The Bluetooth connection is not terrible, but Bluetooth as a whole is less stable and consistent than wired or 2.4GHz wireless.

Unless gamers are looking for a top-of-the-line gaming mouse, the Burst Pro Air offers fantastic performance that is pretty hard to rival at this price point. The only other wireless mouse that comes to mind at this price point is the Logitech G305 Lightspeed. But the G305 only goes up to 12K DPI and doesn't have the same ergonomic shape as the Burst Pro Air.

Battery Life

Battery life is one of the few weak points of the Roccat Burst Pro Air. The advertised battery life is 100 hours, which is quite impressive. However, because the auto sleep settings on this mouse are not always consistent, the Burst Pro Air often dies before the 100-hour mark. This could be a problem with this specific model, but it is worth keeping in mind if gamers plan to keep this mouse on all the time instead of physically turning it off after each use.

Software

Roccat Swarm is a little overbearing at first, but once gamers get it set up, this software offers an incredible amount of control. Starting with the main feature, RGB lighting, gamers have complete control over the four RGB lighting zones to create custom lighting scenarios. The AIMO setting automatically sets the mood depending on what movements the mouse is doing and what apps are open. It's perfect if gamers would rather have pretty lighting without fussing with the controls.

In the settings tab, gamers can change the five DPI profiles, scroll wheel speed, double click speed, and Windows pointer speed. The DPI can be adjusted in single increments, making it very easy for gamers to dial in the settings that work best for them. All eight buttons are programmable, and Roccat has even provided a couple of presets to work off of. In the macro settings, Roccat has made a bunch of options for popular games to make the process a lot easier.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, the Roccat Burst Pro Air is a mouse that can easily find its way to many gamers' desks. This mouse provides an excellent gaming experience, a stable wireless connection, and fantastic RGB lighting, all at an incredibly affordable price. If gamers are willing to overlook the battery life issue or are just more on top of keeping it charged, this mouse is nearly flawless, especially at this price point. Of course, gamers who are looking for top-of-the-line performance might want a bit more, but even for some competitive gamers, the Burst Pro Air is an excellent option.
