Official RobloxSonic the Hedgehog game Sonic Speed Simulator will be getting an update this weekend that adds a fan-favorite character to its roster. This free-to-play game is part of an official partnership between Sega of America and Roblox developer Gamefam. It is an open-world multiplayer experience that allows players to traverse hub worlds and stages inspired by the series. It also has RPG-like elements, where players can level up their characters as they race against each other. Players can use either their Roblox avatars or avatars modeled after Sonic and his friends, which gives it a sense of polish that indicates that it is an official collaboration between the two properties. This gives players the chance to play as characters that may have fallen out of focus over the years and have been relegated to background roles or not being playable at all. Players can unlock Tails, Amy, or Knuckles in Sonic Speed Simulator, with more characters like Espio being introduced in updates throughout 2022. Players will now get a chance to play as a highly anticipated and beloved character of the franchise in the next update, Shadow the Hedgehog.RELATED: Sonic Frontiers Could Be Releasing DLC Wave 1 SoonSonic's notorious rival hadn't been a part of the game up until this update, with characters like Rouge being introduced before his arrival in the game. However, the official Sonic Speed Simulator Twitter account tweeted out a new image, that was explicitly focused on Shadow the Hedgehog, escaping a pyramid constructed by Eggman. The official Roblox page for Sonic Speed Simulator states that Shadow will be released March 11, 2023.

Shortly after this event was announced, the Twitter account @sonicssnews, a member of the community that keeps up-to-date with leaks and news about the game, released some new additions about tomorrow's event involving Shadow. This event will be taking place within Arsenal Pyramid, with Shadow being trapped in a capsule. Longtime fans will know that this is an Easter egg originating from Sonic Heroes, where he was preserved in a similar device at the start of the game. Players will be tasked with rescuing Shadow from the base, with Shadow himself being the reward for completing the mission.

Shadow himself wasn't playable in this game before the event, with the closest to that being the Shadow Androids introduced near the end of January 2023. Sonic Speed Simulator has been a rather successful project for Sega, despite being just a collaboration with Roblox. The game has been used to promote all sorts of projects for the franchise, such as premiering the first episode of Sonic Prime on the game days before it dropped on Netflix.

Roblox is available now for Mobile, PC, and Xbox One.
