The Batman is already set to feature many iconic comic book villains like the Penguin and the Riddler, but for star Robert Pattinson, he has his eye on another potential foe for his character to face in a sequel film.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman will be heavily inspired by noir films, particularly from the 1970s, and will feature a much more reclusive and reckless version of The Dark Knight as he puts his detective skills to the test in order to solve several crimes connected to his tragic past. Reeves' new vision for Batman and Gotham City's inhabitants has many people excited, including the caped crusader himself.

In Den of Geek's The Batman cover story in the new issue for their magazine, Pattinson has shared how his hyper-violent Batman already has him thinking of what villains he will cross paths with in the future. “I’d love to do something like Court of Owls,” Pattinson claimed, referring to the DC Comics horror story about an organized crime group and secret society made up of wealthy Gothamites who have secretly ruled Gotham for centuries. Members of the cult-like group are known for wearing owl masks, kidnapping children, and training them to become assassins.

The Batman -2

While this group/storyline would certainly fit right into Reeves' more gothic and sinister universe that is closely related to the comics, there's still no telling where Reeves has his story headed towards next. Even with Pattinson mapping out plans for two more The Batman movies, right now all the focus is on Batman navigating through his second year of crime fighting and taking down Paul Dano's Riddler. Reeves recently spoke about the Riddler's plan in The Batman, and how he strived to create a much darker and realistic version of the character.

In addition to the two planned direct sequels, two other spin-off series are in early development for HBO Max. One follows Colin Farrell's Penguin and the other focuses on the Gotham City Police Department, as the latter series was revealed to be set during Batman's first year of crime-fighting from the perspective of a corrupt GCPD officer.

The Batman also stars Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Farrell as the Penguin, Peter Sarsgaard as district attorney Gil Colson, and Barry Keoghan as young officer Stanley Merkel.

The Batman arrives in theaters on March 4, 2022, and on HBO Max on April 19, 2022.
