During Marisol Nichols' time portraying Hermione Lodge on The CW's Riverdale, she also worked as an undercover agent sex trafficking agent. Now, Sony Pictures Television is working with Nichols to develop a series based on her experiences.

In a Marie Clarie article written by Erika Hayasaki, Nichols revealed she has been working with local law enforcement, undercover FBI agents, and members of Operation Underground Railroad over the past six years. Nichols would posing as either a child or a parent offering up their child for sex, depending on what the situation called for. In 2014, Nichols launched the nonprofit organization Foundation for a Slavery Free World.

Nichols says she was drawn to the work in part based on her own history of being raped when she was 11 years old. In the past five years, she's volunteered to participate in a half-dozen pedophile stings around the world. Now, Deadline reports Sony has optioned the rights to Nichols' story and is in the early stages of developing a television series based on her fight against child sex trafficking. Nichols will serve as an executive producer on the project and is reportedly likely to star as well. The Riverdale star first started working as an undercover agent after her acting career started to slow down in 2012, roughly five years before she landed the role on the CW series.

Nichols has portrayed Hermoine Lodge, the cruel and deceitful mother of Veronica, on Riverdale since the series premiered on The CW in 2017. While Nichols initially announced she was leaving Riverdale after the fourth season, she has since confirmed that she will reprise her role as Hermione Lodge for portions of the fifth season.

Unfortunately for Riverdale fans, they will have to wait longer than expected for the series and Nichols' return. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The CW pushed the premieres of Riverdale and other shows from their usual fall dates to January 2021.

Riverdale season 5 is scheduled to premiere on The CW in January 2021.
