After more than a year in early access, Risk of Rain 2 has now been officially released on PC with some brand new content, including a tenth playable character called the Captain. That said, players will not have immediate access to the Captain after installing Risk of Rain 2's 1.0 update, and they will instead need to unlock them. Indeed, this is something that many fans will be interested in doing, though the road to unlocking the Captain can be a fairly rocky one.

To put things simply, players that want to take the Captain into battle must first defeat Risk of Rain 2's new final boss, Mithrix, and beat the game. This requires fans to take a trip to the Moon, a new area that was added in the 1.0 update, and describing how that is done is a good entry point to explaining exactly how to unlock the Captain.

To reach the Moon, players must get to Sky Meadow and locate the Primordial Teleporter, which looks very much like a standard RoR2 teleporter surrounded by silver prongs. Once the Primordial Teleporter has been found, fans should interact with it to spawn a standard boss that they must defeat before going through. To note, players that are trying reach the Moon should make sure to interact with the center of the Primordial Teleporter, as using the prongs will loop the run instead of sending fans to the new final area.

At this point, players will find themselves on the Moon, and they should now work their way through the area by either fighting the enemies scattered about or running right past them. Continuing forward, roguelike fans will eventually reach a number of blue jump pads, which should be used to get to the final battle with Mithrix. Without question, this fight can prove to be quite challenging, and players should focus on continuously keeping their distance and dealing ranged damage to this RoR2 boss.

As soon as Mithrix has fallen, fans will be given four minutes within which they must get back to the area where they started. This time limit is quite strict, and players will need to do their best to ignore the enemies and explosions along their path if they hope to make it in time. Those fans that are able to pull this off will ultimately arrive at their ship, which they should interact with to beat Risk of Rain 2, receive the Washed Away achievement, and unlock the Captain in this indie game from developer Hopoo Games.

Risk of Rain 2 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
