Rise of the Ronin gives players the freedom to make their own choices in the game. In the prologue itself, players will have to make big decisions, which will affect how they progress through the story. As players continue moving forward, they will often be presented with two choices, and they must choose one.

Most of the time, it will involve siding with one of the two major factionsin Rise of the Ronin, which are Anti-Shogunate and Pro-Shogunate. Players will often get the opportunity to help one side over the other, and the choices that they make could drastically affect the outcome of the story.

Pro-Shogunate Faction

Rise of the Ronin: Pro-Shogunate Faction

The Pro-Shogunate faction works to ensure that the government stays in power. The people involved in the faction try to protect the shogunate from all kinds of threats. Aside from maintaining the current shogunate, they also try to establish trade with the West. The Pro-Shogunate faction is ruthless in its approach, and it will do everything in its power to complete its objectives.

If players choose to side with the Pro-Shogunate faction , they will have to get rid of any elements trying to cause disturbances in Japan.

Anti-Shogunate Faction

Rise of the Ronin: Anti-Shogunate Faction

The Anti-Shogunate faction, as the name suggests, is against the current shogunate, which is desperately trying to form a good relationship with the West. The people siding with the Anti-Shogunate will try every method in the book to remove the foreign threat and upend the present shogunate.

If Rise of the Ronin players decide to work with the Anti-Shogunate faction , they will have to undertake missions that involve killing many people.

Which Faction Should You Side With?

Throughout the game, players will have the opportunity to pick either side. But they don't have to stick with one faction forever. Even if players opt to side with the Anti-Shogunate faction for a few missions, it is completely possible to work for the Pro-Shogunate faction afterward. Each faction will give you access to different allies. So, if you have a particular fondness for an ally, it is better to side with the faction that they're with.

Aside from unlocking new allies, completing requests for a particular faction will grant players access to new equipment. When they reach a specific bond level with a faction, they will unlock new armor, skill books, and other cosmetics.

If you are struggling to pick a side, it is advised to complete a few missions for both factions to get a better grasp of their philosophy. If you find yourself agreeing with one faction more, then choose that particular one .
