As promised earlier this year, Tom Cannon and his team at Riot Games offer players an updated glimpse at the League of Legends fighting game, Project L. Riot Games' megahit League of Legends has been on fire as of late thanks in large part to the critically acclaimed animated series Arcane. The animated Netflix series was able to open new doors to players who may not be familiar with the popular MOBA franchise or giving fans a new way to experience the characters and lore of Runeterra.

To help capitalize on the new-found popularity, Riot Games has created a number of spin-off style games from League.Titles like the card battling Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, as well as the Riot Forge and Airship Syndicate collaboration Ruined King: A League of Legends Story have given players different ways to experience this universe. However, the company has more spinoffs on the way such including a highly anticipated tag fighting game led by Tom and Tony Cannon.

Originally announced back in 2019, Project L is a free to play tag based fighting game that is set in the world of Runeterra and League of Legends. Periodically, Riot provides an update on the title and as promised, the latest update trailer has finally arrived. The latest development diary sheds more light on the Kraken Truth Bearer Illaoi, who is now fully playable and is shown in early stages using her golden idol and tentacles to smash down her opponents. At this point, she's about 30% complete overall, with continued enhancements being made to her effects, animations, and more.

The other big piece to this update focused in on Project L's overall gameplay style. While Project L is intended to be fun right away, the team is designing it to also reward players that master its mechanics and systems. In an effort to be fast and fluid, Project L gives players a variety of ways to get around including dashing, super jumps, chain dashing, and more besides certain champions possessing even more aerial movement options. New gameplay shows off many of these mechanics including showing off new offensive and defensive options including a Dynamic Save combo breaker as well as a Marvel vs Capcom style assist and tag feature that can even extend combos.

As exciting as this update is for fans, it's worth mention that Project L is still a long ways off from launch. While executive producer Tom Cannon does share that the team is excited for how the game is coming along, though fans won't be hearing about the game again until sometime next year.

Project L is in development.
