The Rings Of Power series from Amazon is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings that takes place in the second age of Middle Earth. Despite this massive time gap between the series and the movies, a few familiar faces show up to set the stage for the creation of the rings of power. Fans know where a lot of these characters end up by the time of the war of the ring in the third age, so future seasons of the show has a lot of work to do to get these characters to that point.

Middle-earth has been around for a long time, but which being has been a part of it for the longest?

What's more, the series also brought up some new plot threads. As such, there is a lot that fans are expecting to see happen in the next series of the show.

6 Isildurs' Fate

Fans Know He Isn't Dead

Rings of Power Isildur

Isildur does not have a big role to play in The Rings of Power, but his presence in the show about these magical artifacts is to be expected. He is part of Numenor and the second bearer of the one ring in Tolkien's lore, so it would make sense that this character would appear. However, it doesn't make much sense pretending that the character is dead at the end of season one.

Isildur is the person who cuts the one ring from Sauron's hand to begin the Third Age of Middle Earth. As such, fans will be expecting to see th story play out in a series dedicated to displaying the origins of this ring. This fake-out death may serve to give some character development to Elendil, but fans are hoping that the fate of Isildur is revealed sooner rather than later next season.

5 Celeborn

Where Is He?

Celeborn

Galadriel's journey in the beginning of The Rings of Power show that she is a very different person to the one fans meet in The Lord of the Rings. She is reckless and stubborn and not at all as regal or powerful as she becomes when residing in Lothlorien among the Sylvan elves.

Another big change in Galadriel is that she is not with her husband, Celeborn. Many fans assumed that this story took place before the pair met, but Celeborn is name-dropped as someone Galadriel knows later in the series. Either Celeborn is going to make an appearance soon, or the writers are taking the story in a different direction. Either way, it would be nice to learn the characters fate in season 2.

4 Who Is The Stranger?

The Show Has Given Clues But No Confirmation

Rings of Power The Stranger

One of the biggest questions raised in season one of The Rings of Power was the identity of the stranger. The character entered the world in meteor and has attached himself to the Harfoot clan. Although the show has established that this character is good, nothing else has really been determined.

RELATED: LOTR: How Gandalf Could Have Become The Ents' Greatest EnemyThe characters clothing, powers, and affinity for hobbits seem to suggest that he is an early form of Gandalf. He also uses one of the wizards lines from The Lord of the Rings. However, Gandalf's arrival in Middle Earth at this time doesn't make much sense. Also, the show would get much more attention if the writer's clearly identified the stranger as one of the most popular characters in fiction.

3 What's Next For Arondir?

Is His Part In The Story Over?

Rings of Power Arondir

Arondir was one of the shows lead characters in season one. He was established as an elf who was charged with looking after the people of the southlands and ensuring that they no longer align themselves with the darker powers of Middle Earth. However, fans know that the southlands were transformed into Mordor by the end of the season. So, what is next for Arondir?

The elf did believe that the humans of Middle Earth were inherently good and even began a romance with one of them. This perspective is bound to have changed after the humans were partly responsible for destroying the southlands. Although, h story will need to take place somewhere else in Middle Earth.

2 Rise Of The Nazgul

When Are The Ringwraiths Coming?

title image nine rings of men nazgul one ring lotr rings of power

The Nazgul of Middle Earth are the chief servants of Sauron who were kings of men that became corrupted by wielding magical rings. Since the story of these men is so intrinsically linked with the rings of power, it would make sense for the Ringwraiths to appear in a show of the same name.

The Nazgul must start out as normal me who slowly fall into shadow as they are corrupted by Sauron. As such, it would make sense that at least one of these kings would show up in the rest of the series. Perhaps one of the Nazgul is already in the show and viewers just don't know it yet. However, with only five series of the show mapped out, it would be nice to see th story develop soon.

1 Sauron's Next Move

The Dark Lord Has Returned

sauron-rings-of-power-reflection

Viewers of The Rings of Power were treated to the arrival of the dark lord at the end of season 1. Disguised as a man named Halbrand, Sauron was able to manipulate those around him to do his bidding in forging the rings of power and bringing Mordor into existence. Even Galadriel was tricked by his disguise.

Now he has everything in place, Sauron is now free to start conquering the rest of Middle Earth. But, where does he begin? Also, where do characters like the stranger and Arondir fit into this narrative? Only time will tell.
