Xenohumans, also known as Xenotypes, are pawns with distinct features and abilities. RimWorld - Biotech, the third DLC for the popular science-fiction colony simulator, has been released by Ludeon Studios. The player will be able to develop their own xenohumans, or genetically modified colonists. The player can also collect exotic genes by acquiring them from merchants, accepting them as mission rewards, or taking them from xenohuman prisoners.

There are many different xenohuman groups, from merciless neanderthal hunters to resilient pig-people. Each faction has a different feel; dealing with a horde of furious fire-breathers is not the same as dealing with wolf escorts sent out by fur-bodied riflemen. Furthermore, some cultures of xenohumans are friendly, but others are hostile or would rather be left alone.

Xenohuman Types

Xenohumans

These are the best xenohuman groups and how they are presented in the game:

Neanderthals

Neanderthals

Neanderthals are strongly constructed humanoids. They are highly resistant to damage, and their powerful immune system protects them from infection. They are less skilled than baseliner humans at social and intellectual tasks, and their recklessness can make them dangerously violent. This is because they have never developed in a complex civilization.

It's worth noting that, homo neanderthalensis was an archaic hominid population that evolved about 200,000 years ago throughout the Pleistocene epoch. After they were replaced, they disappeared for tens of thousands of years until ancient DNA was used to restore them. On certain populated planets, neanderthals now exist in sub-societies.

Yttakin

Yttakin

Yttakin (pronounced ee-ta-keen) are descendants of colonists designed to survive on ultra-cold worlds. Their large size and hair make them resistant to freezing temperatures. Yttakin have a supernatural link with animals and can bring them to their team during battle. They are not swift, energetic, or precise, yet they can continue pushing when others would have given up long before.

Since leaving their frozen birthworld of Yttak, Yttakin civilizations have spread across the galaxy. Their fur, roaring sounds, and dislike of urban living often cause naive observers to think they are simple-minded creatures. However, quick-witted Yttakin are delighted to employ such false beliefs to their advantage.

Pigskins

Pigskins

Pigskins are hybrids of humans and pigs. They can walk on two legs, use tools, and talk, but they still have many pig-like traits. They are useful and can chew nearly anything without getting sick. However, their hands are shaped like trotters, which makes it hard for them to use tools and objects precisely. Since they can't see well from far away, pigskin gangs usually use weapons that are close to them. They are also very interested in explosives.

Pigskins were created for their organs. A long-gone government didn't like the idea of taking organs from normal people, so they put human DNA into pigs to make their hearts and livers easier to transplant. Furthermore, the resulting beings were surprisingly humanoid.

Genies

Genies

Genies are naturally skilled with machines and have sensitive bones, making them perfect engineers who can operate machinery with amazing precision. Since they are emotionally detached, they can obey orders when others might freak out. However, they are weak, and because of the magnified nerve impulses, it is simple to disable them with little to no pain.

Because they devote so much of their minds to analyzing machinery, they lack the hardware to assess emotions, making them appear socially inept at times. A space navy that has since been disbanded genetically altered genies to work in engineering positions on big starships.

Impids

Impids

Impid cultures, designed for desert living, are found on numerous dry deathworlds and rimworlds. Impids can easily withstand high temperatures, move very quickly, and blast fire from their mouths. Impids excel in the sand, while they suffer in other environments. They also fight well from a distance, but their physical frailty shows out in close quarters.

Outlanders refer to them as dustrunners due to their speed across open terrain and heat resistance. Moreover, some tribes refer to them as devils due to their horns and the fact that they burn their opponents.

Hussars

Hussars

Hussars, separated from the rest of the population, are engineered troops. They battle with aggression and precision, heal quickly, thrive in harsh temperatures, and consume military drugs without restriction.

Despite the fact that hussars' emotions render them dangerous in warfare, they are incapable of relating to humans. They are known for their "hussar glare" and blood-red eyes, an appearance that terrifies many humans. Moreover, their inability to communicate and aggressive temperament have led to numerous violent misunderstandings.

Dirtmoles

Dirtmoles

Dirtmoles live in small, dark places where they can fight and move quickly because their gray skin is used to artificial light. They are great at mining or digging tasks. When they are out in the open, they are sensitive to light, move slowly, and can't see far away.

After the initial tunnel colonies failed due to the stress of being confined, agencies in charge of colonization started changing the genes of colonists, so they could live without sunlight or open space. Consequently, this xenotype is commonly known as dirtmoles.

RimWorld is available on PlayStation 4, macOS, Xbox One, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.
