After a long period of silence, Rick and Morty fans got another look at the show's Season 5 along with reiteration when it is going to air. In a surprise trailer that dropped over the weekend, the show gave a look into the crazy adventures Rick and Morty will be embarking on while also announcing when viewers can watch them.

A surprise announcement for the next season of Rick and Morty isn't a rarity. Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have actually made it a habit of announcing the release dates like this over the last few years. However, usually, these trailers tend to come well ahead of the season actually kicking off. This time around, fans won't have to wait long at all until they can start watching new episodes.

Adult Swim released the trailer on its official Twitter account, announcing that the show will return on June 20th while showing off some of the parodies of well-known science fiction IPs. Included in those send-ups appears to be Voltron, and Marvel's Namor. It also appears from the video that viewers are going to be seeing more of Rick and Morty side character Jessica.

Season 5 of Rick and Morty will include 10 episodes and this time around, the show will departing from a formula it adopted the last few seasons. Instead of having a first half and a second half of the season, these 10 episodes will run straight through. That means that this summer will be filled with episodes, which in itself is a departure from how Adult Swim has done things with the show in the recent past. Season 4 of the animated Sci-Fi show aired over the winter, taking a long break over the Christmas period. In fact, in order to find a season start date similar to this year's viewers have to go all the way back to Season 2, which kicked off on July 26. Season 3 debuted earlier in the spring, on April 1.

There is at least a chance that Season 5 of Rick and Morty could be leading into another project of Harmon and Roiland's. The popular show is getting its own spinoff, centered on Rick and Morty fan-favorite characters The Vindicators. The network has said the spinoff, which will have 8-10 episodes will either debut at the end of 2021, or the beginning of 2022. That means it's possible the new series could pick up right after Rick and Morty Season 5 comes to an end.

Just how many more seasons after the upcoming one fans will get of Rick and Morty is unknown. The series has been renewed for 10 seasons, but several fan theories claim the show will end earlier than most expect.

Rick and Morty season 5 will premiere on June 20th on Adult Swim.
