It is no secret that God of War: Ragnarok is one of the most highly anticipated titles for many gamers this Winter. Even the Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has stated that God of War: Ragnarok is the game he's most excited to play next, showing just how far the hype around the game has come. With a November release date looming, Sony has begun to roll out some marketing for the upcoming action title, with the latest clip featuring quite an unexpected crossover.

Kratos and Atreus are absent from the short clip posted to Adult Swim's YouTube channel, and instead they are replaced by Rick and Morty. It seems like both the famed scientist and his grandson are truly embodying the spirit of the God of War: Ragnarok protagonists, though, as Rick begins the clip by shaving his head and slathering his face in red paint. As usual, Morty is hesitant to join his grandpa on these high-risk adventures, but is dragged along anyway as the two enter the Nine Realms using Rick's iconic portal gun.

As soon as they step into the realm of Norse mythology, Morty is attacked by some vulture-like creatures while Rick ignores him and heads straight for the Leviathan Axe, the weapon Kratos wields in both 2018's God of War and God of War: Ragnarok. In the chest where Rick finds the axe, he also looks directly at the camera and states that there are other "unannounced upgrades" in there too, meaning some new weapons might be available in God of War: Ragnarok, as unlocks further on in the story.

Throughout the promo clip, which runs for less than a minute, there are constant gags and quips that someone familiar with the Rick and Morty formula would expect. Considering Rick and Morty is launching its sixth season, it makes sense that as the show makes a return, it ties itself in to other media that's popular right now, such as God of War.

Apart from Rick and Morty appearing in a God of War crossover, the pair have made their way into the gaming world through other ways as well. Morty recently became part of MultiVersus' roster, for example, with Rick to follow in the coming weeks. While Rick and Morty are set to be playable characters in MultiVersus, it isn't expected they'll get the same treatment in God of War: Ragnarok, as that could likely break up the serious atmosphere that game is trying to set.

God of War Ragnarok releases November 9 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
