Rune Factory 3 Special offers players a rich and enjoyable experience filled with clever dialogue, charming characters, and lots of farming and adventuring. When the player isn’t busy performing chores and battling enemies, they spend time speaking with the villagers, offering gifts, and performing tasks to aid in their day-to-day lives.

Rune Factory 3 Special does suffer from a significant shortcoming that was common in early Rune Factory and Harvest Moon titles. The player can only create a male main character and is only able to romance the women of Sharance Town. This isn’t necessarily a problem, but such a limitation feels like an archaic trope from the earlier years of the life simulation game genre, which, unfortunately, was not addressed in RF3S. Though there are no Bachelors to romance in RF3S, there are still plenty of Bachelorettes for players to pursue.
