Highlights

  • The Resistance: Retribution update adds Infected mode and fixes bugs for a better player experience on PS Plus Premium.
  • The update adds three new trophies to unlock.
  • It also squashes some of the game's lingering bugs.

To the surprise of many, Bend Studio is releasing an update for the version of the PSP game Resistance: Retribution that's playable on PS4 and PS5. Sony has been bringing classic PSP games to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier of its subscription service for the past couple of years, with Resistance: Retribution one of the most noteworthy handheld games available on the service.

Originally released in 2009, Resistance: Retribution was developed by Bend Studio as a spin-off of Insomniac's Resistance FPS franchise. In Resistance: Retribution, players take on the role of Lieutenant James Grayson as he battles the Chimera threat in a story that takes place in the time between the first two main series Resistance games. But whereas the main series Resistance games are first-person shooters, Resistance: Retribution is actually a third-person shooter, giving it a distinctly different flavor than its console counterparts.

The Resistance Games Deserve to Make a Comeback on PS5

Insomniac Games may be busy with Spider-Man and Wolverine right now, but it should revisit the Resistance franchise at some point on PS5.

Resistance: Retribution was added to PS Plus Premium on February 20, 2024 with full trophy support and a suite of other bells and whistles to make it the superior way to experience the game. However, there are some issues with Resistance: Retribution on PS Plus Premium, including a problem where the final story-related trophy doesn't pop. That issue is being addressed in the new update coming next week, making it possible for more players to unlock the Resistance: Retribution Platinum trophy. But that's not all.

Update 1.02 for Resistance: Retribution also fixes some of the game's lingering bugs and also brings back the Infected game mode. Infected was a bonus mode in the original Resistance: Retribution on PSP that could previously only be unlocked by connecting the game to Resistance 2. Infected is basically a new way to experience the story, as Grayson is suffering from the Chimeran infection, giving him some unique new abilities.

Trophy hunters will be happy to learn that Infected adds even more trophies to the game. When the update drops next week, the Resistance: Retribution trophy list has grown to include three additional trophies, giving fans even more reason to return to the classic PSP game.

It's safe to say that few expected Resistance: Retribution to get a notable update like this all the way in 2024, but it will likely be very appreciated by fans who have been enjoying the game through PS Plus Premium. Here's hoping future PSP games that join the PS Plus Premium lineup get the same kind of attention.

Resistance: Retribution Update 1.02 Patch Notes

FIXES

  • Fixed the last story trophy not popping upon completion of the mission for some players - Destroy the Chrysalis and Raine. Go get that elusive Platinum trophy!
  • General bug fixes. Just like Grayson, gotta smash those alien bugs.

NEW

  • We added the highly requested Infected mode back to Resistance: Retribution! Ah, needed this.

Playing in Infected mode, James Grayson will wear the black Specter uniform with glowing Chimeran eyes (creepy). As Grayson, you now possess regenerative health and can breathe underwater. Plus, there is more Intel to find and a shiny new weapon to use. Hint: It's the HE.44 Magnum.

  • Added DLC trophy pack for Infected mode

Yes, you read that right. Not only did we add Infected mode, but we're bringing you 3 additional trophies to earn!
