The official trailer for Sony’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has been released, and it promises to bring the franchise back with a bang. The two-minute trailer is loaded with Easter eggs related to the gaming franchise, and fans of the games will be able to recognize most of the monsters that make an appearance. It also seems like the film is highly influenced by the games, with a similar ambiance visible in almost all scenes.

A teaser for the film was shared by the official Resident Evil social media accounts on Wednesday. The 13-second clip offered glimpses of some of the creatures in the Resident Evil film, including a zombie dog, and promised the release of the official trailer the next day. As if on cue, the trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City dropped exactly 24 hours later.

The trailer begins with Claire Redfield, portrayed by Kaya Scodelairo, trying to convince her brother Chris, played by Robbie Amell, that they need to expose Umbrella Corporation for its wrongdoings. While her brother doesn't believe her "conspiracy theories," she is adamant about discovering the company's dark secret. Suddenly, people start "falling sick," and that's when action peaks. Set to "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes, the trailer then goes on to reveal how Umbrella is experimenting on people and introduces some of these individuals to viewers. The remaining trailer is filled with lots of gunfire, zombies, and exploding helicopters.

The Resident Evil movies are some of the most popular film adaptations of video games and the upcoming one promises to take viewers back to the franchise’s horror roots. The film franchise so far has six movies and has made over $1 billion dollars at the global box office. It would be safe to say that the films have created their own fan following, individual from the games and the original source material. It has been previously confirmed that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will be true to the original games. The plot will follow events from the first two games in the Resident Evil franchise, with the main characters Claire, Chris, Jill Valentine portrayed by Hannah John-Kamen, and Leon Kennedy portrayed by Avan Jogia taking center stage. The main characters will obviously work together to discover the truth behind the Umbrella Corporation while fighting for their lives.

The main locations that the film will be set in are the Spencer Mansion from the first Resident Evil game and the Raccoon City Police Department from the second game. It has also been confirmed that zombies from the first two games will be making an appearance, along with Lisa Trevor, the daughter of the Spencer Mansion architect. Fans of the games will easily recognize the different types of creatures that the main characters will be going up against.

In August, three official images from the Resident Evil film were released by Sony, which showed the main characters in action. Up until the trailer was released, these images and the short teaser were the only insight that fans had of the film, but even those captured the true essence of Resident Evil, unlike the previous films.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will premiere in theaters on November 24, 2021.
