It's only a matter of time now before Resident Evil Village finally officially releases, but fans still have some questions. One of the primary concerns of virtual reality enthusiasts around the world is whether or not the game will support any kind of VR features. Historically speaking, Resident Evil 7 launched with full virtual reality capabilities on PlayStation, so many players are hoping for the same opportunities with the newer game. Unfortunately, it must be said that at the time of writing, there have been no announced plans for any kind of VR support for the game. Resident Evil Village will not be launching with VR support.

While this may come as a disappointment to some, there are likely good reasons for this being the case. Given that the world has been collectively on lockdown for over a year thanks to the Coronavirus, development on Resident Evil Village likely didn't go as smoothly as one might have hoped.

Another potential reason for the lack of VR comes from speculation based on recent reviews that have released. A common consensus among reviewers is that Resident Evil Village is a bit more combat heavy than its predecessor, and the reason Resident Evil 7 was able to shine in VR the way it did was because of its emphasis on survival horror elements. There's also something to be said for the fact that Resident Evil Village is a cross generation game, as it will be available on both PS4 and PS5.

Presumably, the PS4 is already going to be working very hard in order to keep up with what the PS5 is capable of. With that in mind, it would probably be difficult to implement VR on top of this already high performance standard. What's more, although the PSVR is compatible with the PS5, it hasn't been a major selling point for the console. There are also rumors that a PSVR 2 announcement is coming soon, so it's entirely possible that Capcom is waiting for that to implement its VR version.

Keep in mind that this is all speculation, as Capcom has not made any sort of official announcement about virtual reality plans for Resident Evil Village. While these are some potential reasons for the lack of VR, there's no way to truly know for certain. It's definitely possible that a virtual reality mode will be added at some point in the future, but at the moment players will have to experience the game the old fashioned way.
