Resident Evil Village is just around the corner now, offering fans of the franchise a continuation of Ethan Winter's story from Resident Evil 7. With the game releasing so soon, Capcom is finally ready to start revealing new information about it, and the company did just that in a story trailer released during today's Resident Evil Showcase.

Clocking in at just under three minutes, the new Resident Evil trailer is one of the beefiest looks players have gotten at the game's story. Kicking off with an impressive view of the castle, village, and the wilderness surrounding it, the trailer quickly dives into some narration about Mother Miranda, a mysterious figure alluded to in Resident Evil Village's other trailers and marketing material.

From there, the trailer starts to build up intensity, showing Ethan being dragged around while held captive; a face-to-face meeting with Lady Dimitrescu, during which she slits Ethan's wrist to drink his blood; and plenty of Resident Evil Village's ghoulish enemies. That's not all, either, as the trailer also dives into some action-heavy sequences, with Ethan driving a car through a burning building in one segment.

Based on the trailer, it seems players will primarily be tasked with reclaiming the village from the creatures that inhabit it. It's a bold departure from the kind of combat players did in Resident Evil 7, where the goal most of the time was simply to survive, rather than take down large enemies. It seems that Ethan will be equipped with the tools that he needs for the job, though, considering the large rifle he obtains during one portion of the trailer.

Fans have now seen a decent chunk of what Resident Evil Village will hold, though they'll be able to get an even better taste of it soon. Capcom is launching an hour-long Resident Evil Village demo, with the release timing depending on the platform a user is on. PlayStation fans are getting early access, but Xbox and PC users will still be able to jump into it in the coming weeks, as previously promised.

Luckily for all fans, Resident Evil Village's release date is right around the corner, with the game slated to launch next month. It's one of the most anticipated games launching this year, especially for those that are longtime fans of the franchise. Whether or not it will be able to stick the landing remains to be seen, but the trailers have portrayed it as a true next-gen experience for those that have managed to grab a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

Resident Evil Village launches May 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
