It's no surprise that the release of Resident Evil Village has been well received by fans and critics alike, as it has been widely anticipated. That reception has translated into sales as Resident Evil Village nabbed three of the top 10 spots for Steam sales this week.
This information was sourced by Steam Database, a site used to display collections, view popular titles, and more. In the week ending May 9, the global top seller's page displayed Resident Evil Village at the top, but also a couple of different bundles including Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village. Those titles came in ranked at six and seven, respectively.
Sitting at the second spot was a game that hasn't been released yet. Hood: Outlaws and Legends is set to release on Monday, but pre-orders have pushed it right up against Resident Evil Village. This in turn pushed PUBG to the third position after it had been ranked first last week. This also pushed It Takes Two to the fourth spot, and the Valve Index VR Kit right behind at number five. From there, after the bundles for the Resident Evil games, Arma 3's Prairie Fire DLC comes in at eight. The pre-order for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition takes the ninth spot, and then rounding out the top 10 is Nier: Automata, not the newly released Nier Replicant.
With anticipation that brewed for the game, it's no wonder Resident Evil Village took the top spot, but to obtain three spots in the top 10 has to be seen as a resounding success. This has also driven sales of Resident Evil 7, as it was the other game contained in the bundle. With all of the excitement swirling around Resident Evil Village, it's a testament to players going out and getting it any way that they could. A lot of the top games have been mainstays for some time, so to push those out while coming in at the top has to only be seen as a success.
Having been released on May 7, Resident Evil Village has taken the gaming world by storm on all consoles that it is available on, including PC. Whether it holds the top spot after the upcoming week remains to be seen, as Hood: Outlaws and Legends is set to be released. Whatever does happen, with two days of being released, Resident Evil Village ran the sales charts.
