Resident Evil Village will be out in about a month's time, and so Capcom has been ramping up its marketing for the game. This included a recent gameplay demonstration where Capcom showed Resident Evil Village running on a PlayStation 4 Pro, marking the first time that the game had been shown on last-generation hardware. This footage has also revealed some interesting new details that were previously unknown about the highly-anticipated survival-horror game.
Twitter account Where's Barry spotted two big changes that Resident Evil Village will be bringing to the table when compared to Resident Evil 7. As seen in the Resident Evil Village PS4 Pro gameplay footage from IGN, the new game will evidently give players the option to skip cut-scenes as well as use a Photo Mode. Resident Evil 7 did not have a Photo Mode, and it infamously did not allow players to skip cut-scenes either, which made subsequent playthroughs frustrating for some players.
While these new features haven't been specifically called out by Capcom, it's a safe bet that they will make it to the final game. Luckily, confirmation on whether or not these features will be included should come soon enough, as Capcom is planning another Resident Evil Showcase event at some point later this month.
Capcom has yet to reveal an exact date for the April 2021 Resident Evil Showcase, but more information should come to light sooner rather than later. It's also unclear exactly what the event will entail, but it will most likely focus on Resident Evil Village, since it's due for release in early May. One distinct possibility is that Capcom will be announcing new details regarding the second Resident Evil Village demo, which will presumably be available prior to the game's May 8 release date.
The Resident Evil Village Maiden demo was a short showcase designed to show off the game's next-generation graphics and lighting effects. The second demo is believed to feature content from the final game and may be a bit more involved. Not only that, but it's expected to release for multiple platforms, whereas the Maiden demo is exclusive to the PlayStation 5. However, none of this has been confirmed by Capcom in an official capacity, so Resident Evil fans should standby for more information.
Resident Evil Village's gameplay looks to be making a number of big improvements when compared to RE7, as evidenced by its new inventory system, the revamped combat, and quality of life improvements like the ability to skip cut-scenes. Whether or not the complete package lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but fans will find out next month.
Resident Evil Village launches May 8 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
