The PS VR2 has launched, and its stellar launch line-up has left gamers with tons of great titles to try out. Though there are many immersive games to dive into, the headset is still in its early days, and it lacks AAA action experiences. Gamers looking for something like that will have to turn to Horizon Call of the Mountain, which is very short and doesn't compare to a full-length title like Half-Life: Alyx which PC VR gamers can enjoy. The closest thing PS VR2 players have is Resident Evil Village, which manages to turn the horror game into a fully-fledged VR experience.

In Resident Evil Village, players can engage in immersive gunplay and blast terrifying monsters. The terrifying environments are rendered in beautiful visual quality, and the sound design is guaranteed to raise the hair on one's neck. Though there has been no Half-Life: Alyx port confirmed yet, Resident Evil Village is about as good as it gets for PS VR2 players so far.

Resident Evil Village and PS VR2

Resident Evil Village was originally released in 2021, though it has since had a few re-releases. In 2022, it was released on current-gen consoles, and it also received a third-person perspective. The latest update gave Resident Evil Village a scary VR mode for PS VR2. The game is scary enough when played on a television screen, but jumping into it in VR takes things to a whole new level. Realism is made possible through the realistic gunplay which emulates all the movements of loading and cocking various types of guns, and when the horrors of Lady Dimitrescu's castle are wandering about, it is hard to not feel like they are right behind one's shoulder.

This is as close as PS VR2 players currently have to an AAA action-adventure experience not unlike what gamers receive with regular flat-screen games. The current holy grail for this kind of game is Valve's Half-Life: Alyx, which was released in 2020 and can be played on PC VR headsets. It beats Resident Evil Village in terms of interactivity because it was built from the ground up as a VR game. Movement is far more realistic, and weapons can be used for combat and puzzles. In comparison, Resident Evil Village looks beautiful but can sometimes feel inconsistent in terms of what can be interacted with and what can't.

Will Half-Life: Alyx Ever Come to PS VR2?

As one of the best VR games available, there have been calls for Half-Life Alyx to make its way to PlayStation. There are reasons why this is unlikely to happen, as it is a Valve game, and the company may be reluctant to have it sold on Sony's storefront instead of its own. Currently, it is not possible to use the headset with a PC either, making Half-Life: Alyx on PS VR2 impossible at the moment. Nevertheless, PS VR2 gamers can still amuse themselves with titles like Resident Evil Village as well as the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake which Capcom has confirmed will have a VR mode.

The PS VR2's launch line-up is impressive, offering something to please a wide variety of gamers. Players hoping to explore the cosmos can jump into No Man's Sky while gamers who want to peacefully float down a stream can play Kayak VR: Mirage. Some gamers seek games that emulate the production quality of AAA flat-screen games, which PC gamers get to enjoy with titles like Half-Life: Alyx. The PS VR2 is still lacking in this department, though Resident Evil Village scratches the itch for now.

Resident Evil Village is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, PS VR2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
