Capcom revealed a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming PlayStation VR2 version of Resident Evil Village. Ethan Winters will search for his kidnapped daughter Rosemary and fight against the minions of Mother Miranda once again, but this time players will have the opportunity to step into his shoes and interact with the village through their virtual reality headsets.

Resident Evil Village initially came out in May 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The story follows the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, taking place three years after Ethan Winters faced the Baker family. Ethan’s daughter Rosemary has been kidnapped, and the hero discovers a mysterious village and its supernatural creatures. Resident Evil Village received generally favorable reviews, earning various awards including Ultimate Game of the Year during the Golden Joystick Awards 2021 and Best Performance for Maggie Robertson as Lady Dimitrescu in The Game Awards 2021.

Capcom shared the gameplay trailer for the PlayStation VR2 version of Resident Evil Village on its official YouTube channel. The video shows Ethan Winters searching for his daughter and fighting the various enemies standing in his way, from large mutated creatures to Karl Heisenberg, one of the main antagonists of Resident Evil Village. The gameplay trailer ends with the release date of Resident Evil Village on PlayStation VR2, scheduled for February 22, 2023.

In the description of this video, Capcom adds one key piece of information: the PlayStation VR2 version of Resident Evil Village will be free for all owners of the original game, as the VR Mode is a free DLC for Resident Evil Village. In the comments, players were delighted to discover this VR version of the latest main entry in the Resident Evil franchise. Some players stated they would buy a PlayStation VR2 only to play this game and rediscover Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters, while others wished for a PC VR version and other virtual reality ports of major Resident Evil games.

Resident Evil Village joins the launch window lineup for the PlayStation VR2, alongside major titles such as No Man’s Sky, The Dark Pictures: Switchback, Jurassic World Aftermath, and Horizon Call of the Mountain. Sony’s highly anticipated next-gen headset is set to release on February 22, 2023, with new features such as a 4K HDR display with a 110° field of view, foveated rendering, and enhanced eye-tracking technology. However, these new features prevent the PlayStation VR2 from being backward compatible with PlayStation VR titles, meaning players will not be able to play their previous VR games on the upcoming headset.

Resident Evil Village will release on the PlayStation VR2 on February 22, 2023.
