By taking a cursory glance at any game's trophy or achievement list, especially popular AAA games, it becomes obvious that very few gamers actually complete a game's story compared to how many purchased it. Not so for Resident Evil Village, it seems, as according to HowLongToBeat.com, the 8th mainline entry in the seminal horror franchise took home top honors for most completed game of 2021. While not a lengthy game by any means, it seems this year gamers wanted to see Resident Evil Village through until its final moments.

It should be noted however that HowLongToBeat.com is primarily composed of data submitted by users so may not be indicative of the world at large. That being said, according to the data, Resident Evil Village did secure the top spot for most completed game of this year. Village was not without its competition, however, as it only narrowly beat out Metroid Dread. In fact, considering the difficulty of Metroid Dread on normal, especially its final boss encounter, it's actually pretty intriguing that so many gamers finished Samus' latest adventure.

Other titles mentioned at the top of the most completed list was Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Hazelight Studios' It Takes Two, which recently just won the coveted Game of the Year award at The Game Awards. Both titles being so high up makes sense as Ratchet & Clank has so much customization when it comes to difficulty that it allows for people to see the game through to its credits as easily as they want. As for It Takes Two, Hazelight Studios' award-winning game is accessible for anyone to pick up and play, so it's no surprise it's this high up on the list.

Resident Evil Village may have indeed been the most completed game but according to HowLongToBeat.com, it was also the second most backlogged game for gamers just behind NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... As far as longest game of the year goes, the site claims that Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous was found to take the longest to beat coming in at around 123 hours, making for an intensely long story campaign.

Capcom's launch of Resident Evil Village has proven to be very successful for the studio and has sold over 5 million copies globally by the end of October 2021. The publisher has stated that DLC for Village is currently on the way but hasn't specified when fans should be expecting it by. Hopefully 2022 will be home to more horrific adventures in Resident Evil Village's terrifying and grotesque world.

Resident Evil Village is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
