Let it never be said that the PC modding community is not quick on the draw. Barely had Resident Evil Village hit the stores when fans already began tinkering with the game. While some mods, such as the one which turns Lady Dimitrescu into the fictional locomotive Thomas the Tank Engine, there are some which are trying to improve on Capcom's latest entry in the RE franchise.

Seeing as how the game wasn't developed with a slider that allows players to adjust the field of view, or FOV, a modder has taken it upon themselves to add one to Resident Evil Village themselves. Called the Lazy FOV and Vignette Fix, the mod gives players a few additional tweaks to the game that aren't officially available. As the name suggests, as well as being able to adjust the field of view, there's also the opportunity to adjust the vignette settings for that extra graphical grittiness.

Surprisingly, the mod also works in the demo version of the game, and should continue to be compatible with the full release even after future patches start coming through. However, as Village was not built with its own FOV slider, the game was meant to be played at a lower field of view so anyone who downloads it may notice some visual glitches if they crank the slider up for a wider view. But for those who prefer a much higher FOV, such glitches might be worth it. It's also worth pointing out that, according to the mod page itself, this isn't an add-on that actually adjusts the game files as such. It's a downloadable tool which needs to be opened in the background before running the game.

Already setting a new series record for the most simultaneous Steam players, Resident Evil Village is proving itself to be a solid addition to the franchise. With the game also pulling in some of the highest viewership numbers for an RE game on Twitch, it's likely that it will only go from strength to strength as the weeks go by.

Despite being one of the most popular horror series in the world, arguably much of the hype focused on the game's matriarchal figurehead, Lady Dimitrescu, whose popularity has not waned as fans flood the internet with new fan art. But with the modding community now tweaking the game in ways that Capcom did not consider, or perhaps considered but decided to not go with, it will be interesting to see what other mods are in the pipeline that could potentially give the game some additional pep.

Resident Evil Village is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
