The latest game in Capcom's long-running and incredibly beloved Resident Evil franchise was well-received by fans when it first launched in 2021. Resident Evil Village brought the series' classic horror tropes together with action-packed gameplay and a whole host of new characters and settings to explore. Ever since it was released, fans have been clamoring for some story-focused DLC for Resident Evil Village, and Capcom has finally delivered. Announced during its recent 2022 Summer Showcase, Capcom will be adding a number of elements to the excellent base game, and players are more than a little excited to dive back into the creepy world of Resident Evil Village.

The showcase revealed a variety of additions coming to Resident Evil Village, but the one that had fans the most excited was The Mercenaries Additional Orders. Not only will it provide gamers with additional experiences, but it will also focus on some of the game's memorable villains and let players take control of fan-favorite characters like the gigantic vampiress Alcina Dimitrescu. While this will undoubtedly be a popular addition, the DLC shouldn't forget the other unique antagonists.

The critically acclaimed Resident Evil Village still has plenty in store for players thanks to its upcoming story DLC set to release on October 28 this year. In addition to a third-person mode for the main story, there will be a new section to play through as players learn more about Ethan and Mia's daughter Rose's tale of survival and resilience sixteen years after the original campaign.

The Winters Expansion has a variety of additional content for players to sink their teeth into, from enhanced versions of the main story mode through a new perspective, to an update on the overarching narrative as gamers learn more about Rosemary Winters and her struggle to come to terms with her origins and her unique powers.

The Return Of The Villains

The Mercenaries is a minigame in Resident Evil Village, as well as older titles like Resident Evil 6, and sees players attempting to kill as many enemies as they can during the time limit to achieve the highest score. Players must move through the different stages and can gather orbs to gain more time or upgrade their character. The Winters Expansion is bringing some changes to this existing arcade-like mode, with more stages and new playable characters.

In addition to adding Chris Redfield to the roster, The Mercenaries Additional Orders will let players take control of the nefarious Karl Heisenberg and the formidable Lady Dimitrescu. Not only will this add an interesting new dynamic to the gameplay, but it will also give gamers the chance to make use of each of the antagonists' unique powers, like Heisenberg's magnetic abilities and gigantic hammer and Lady Dimitrescu's impressive height and strength.

Widening The Scope From Lady Dimitrescu

Playing through the updated Mercenaries mode as either of those three characters will no doubt be fun and offer something fresh from the rest of Resident Evil Village's gameplay, but Capcom shouldn't stop there. Lady Dimitrescu may be the most memorable and certainly the most popular of the game's villains, but Resident Evil Village also had some other intriguing antagonists. Her daughters Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela had their own vampiric abilities that would be great to utilize and would still offer a contrast to their mother's skillset.

Similarly, Salvatore Moreau may be the grossest of Resident Evil Village's foes, but his fish-like transformation and his acidic projectile vomit would certainly cause havoc and could be incredibly destructive in the hands of players. Donna Beneviento and her possessed puppet Angie again offer a completely different take on combat and could let the player control an army of doll minions, even if her physical prowess isn't quite as impressive as some of her antagonistic counterparts. Resident Evil Village has a great group of villains, and it would be a shame to see some of them fall more into the background, overshadowed by Lady Dimitrescu's towering figure.

Resident Evil Village is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
