Long-time fans of Resident Evil Village may remember the Mercenaries mode from previous titles. While it hasn't been seen in a main title since Resident Evil 3, the timed arcade mode is a fresh change of pace from the usual combat of the game.

Mercenaries mode is unlocked for gamers upon completing the main story in Resident Evil Village and then purchasing it from the Extra Content Shop. There is a total of eight stages available; however, players can only access the next stage when they receive at least an A or B rank on the previous level.

The first four stages of Mercenaries Mode aren't too difficult. Although, the harder version of the stages has more difficult requirements for better scores. So for Resident Evil Village fans looking to complete Mercenaries mode fully, here are some tips on reaching SSS rankings on the levels.

Stages 1-4

  • Purchase: Sniper Rifle
  • Sell: Shotgun Shells and some Handgun Shells
  • Perks: Damage Enhancers upon initial hit/when health is low etc.

Before attempting an SSS rank run, it is heavily recommended to at least get a B rank on the mission so that players start with an additional 5,000 Lei. Gamers should focus on killing enemies with the sniper rifle due to its damage and effectiveness with perks. If players can memorize enemy spawn points and paths, they can rack up a high combo meter since the sniper rifle kills most enemies in one hit.

Another important thing to note is that fans should not reload the sniper at the end of each level. Purchasing upgrades automatically refills ammo for free, so prioritize money towards that instead. Also, make sure to save some shotgun shells for stage four since gamers need the shotgun against the final boss.

Stages 5-8

  • Buy: Pistols, Mines, and Magnum
  • Sell: Nothing
  • Perks: Increased damage, sprint speed, and enemy combustion

Sadly, the inventory at Duke's shop isn't the same as the normal stages, so the old strategy is no longer viable. For these rounds, start by fully upgrading the Pistol damage and Rate of fire and the first upgrade for reload speed and capacity. Also, purchase the magnum after the first stage, but only use it against mini-bosses and harder versions of enemies. Make sure to hit them in the weak points for instant kills. Lastly, prioritize mine usage on tougher enemies by placing them in front of harder enemies to break their armor and stun them.

With enough practice, gamers should be able to use this strategy to keep up the high combo counter. And since enemy spawn points are similar to the first four stages of mercenaries mode, there shouldn't be too many surprises. Just make sure to monitor the ammo supply wisely since players can easily run out if they aren't careful enough.
