Resident Evil Village's Shadows of Rose DLC will largely wrap up the role of the Winters family in the overarching plot of the franchise. Set 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village, which sees the return of Ethan Winters from Resident Evil Biohazard as he tracks down his kidnapped daughter, Shadows of Rose now replaces Ethan with his daughter, who is a teenager and working with Chris Redfield. The DLC was revealed in June of this year after many fans wondered where the story of Resident Evil would go next.

Following the reveal of the Shadows of Rose DLC, fans have been given more information about the extra content. According to Capcom, Shadows of Rose will offer an increased challenge for players, being much harder than Resident Evil Village's base experience. As well, alongside the reveal of Shadows of Rose, a Resident Evil Village Gold Edition was announced, which will give players the ability to experience the game in a new, third-person perspective.

Now, it has been confirmed that the story of Shadows of Rose will conclude the Winters family's narrative in Resident Evil. Speaking with IGN Japan, Resident Evil Village Director Kento Kinoshita said that Capcom had the DLC created to conclude the "Winters family saga." This means that for Resident Evil 9, there will likely be some new characters introduced or perhaps a return to some old favorites. Kinoshita refused to comment on future plans, simply stating that he couldn't share anything.

Even if the Shadows of Rose story will only last for around four hours, this will be enough time for Capcom to conclude the story of Rose and Ethan Winters. There is some speculation that Ethan Winters is still alive by the end of Resident Evil Village, and a clone of Rose Winters was revealed in a trailer for Shadows of Rose, so many are expecting some answers to these mysteries. As well as speaking about the story of Shadows of Rose, Kinoshita also talked about how the third-person mode was a challenge for the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, practically taking as much effort as "creating a new game."

Alongside the upcoming DLC for Resident Evil Village, fans of Capcom's classic horror franchise also have the remake of Resident Evil 4 to look forward to. Recently, at TGS 2022, it was confirmed that Resident Evil 4's remake would be coming to PlayStation 4 and that fans would be getting more news next month because all things Resident Evil are going to be covered in a Capcom showcase in October.

Resident Evil Village is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Shadows of Rose launches on October 28, 2022.
