Last week, Capcom announced that it is holding a huge presentation for the Resident Evil 8 franchise, scheduled to happen today at 2 PM PT. In a tweet, Capcom revealed that the showcase will run for half an hour and will take players on a guided tour of Resident Evil 8, alongside a new trailer, gameplay footage, and more Resident Evil news.

Given that the event is mere hours away, it is not surprising that details on what will be featured at the showcase have already leaked. In a description of Resident Evil 8 on the Humble Store, it was revealed that the game would include Resident Evil Re: Verse, which is likely the other Resident Evil news that Capcom is planning to reveal at the event. Details on Resident Evil Re: Verse is still unknown, but it is likely the multiplayer component of Resident Evil 8.

It is worth noting that when Capcom released Resident Evil 3 last year, the game was bundled with Resident Evil Resistance, which is a 4v1 online multiplayer mode that aims to bring players a new way to experience survival horror. Although some were happy with Resident Evil Resistance, many blamed the multiplayer mode for Resident Evil 3's short runtime and the lack of original locations such as the Graveyard and the Clock Tower.

Additionally, the Humble Store's leaked description of Resident Evil 8 also included a link to Re: Verse's official website. As expected, the website currently displays a 404 error, but it is likely to change after the showcase, assuming that the leaked description is true. It would also be interesting to see whether Resident Evil Re: Verse would be directly linked to Resident Evil 8. It is worth remembering that the Resident Evil franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, so it wouldn't be surprising if the rumored multiplayer game would encompass several titles of the franchise and not just Resident Evil 8.

Luckily for fans, everything will be cleared at tonight's event. Apart from the in-depth preview of Resident Evil 8, Capcom is also expected to reveal the game's release date, when pre-orders are expected to go live, and a general discussion about its 25th anniversary. Lastly, it remains to be seen whether Capcom will talk about the upcoming Resident Evil reboot film and Netflix's Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. However, players waiting for more info on those projects shouldn't get their hopes up, given that Capcom will likely be focusing the event on the video game franchise.

Resident Evil 8 is currently in development for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
