Fans of the more traditional survival horror-themed Resident Evil games will be pleased to know that Capcom has officially unveiled plans to bring Resident Evil: Revelations to current-gen consoles. Resident Evil: Revelations will make its way to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 29th, with a later 2017 release planned for the Nintendo Switch. In addition, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will also be making a debut on the Switch.

Resident Evil: Revelations was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS, and previously saw some graphical upgrades in order to be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Capcom is further fine-tuning the game's appearance, this time ramping up the resolution to 1920 x 1080, improving graphical textures, and updating creature animations to take advantage of the newer console hardware.

Rather than just polishing the game's graphics, Resident Evil: Revelations will offer a tweaked Raid Mode stage in its upcoming port. The stage has been dubbed 'The Ghost Ship: Chaos', which will offer a bigger challenge for Raid Mode veterans. Capcom promises that those who are able to survive the encounter with tougher enemies can unlock powerful weapons as a reward. In addition, all previously released DLC will be included.

Finally, gamers will also be able to choose between four different controller schemes, which are based upon various control schemes from other entries in the Resident Evil series. Although most players were fairly satisfied with the control scheme of the original release, which was similar to Resident Evil 4 and 5, this is in keeping with Capcom's recent ports. Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster offered an optional updated control scheme for those who didn't want to revisit the legendary tank controls of Resident Evil, while still retaining those controls for those who wanted the classic experience.

Resident Evil: Revelations initially received high praise for its story, which filled in the gaps between Resident Evil 4 and 5 and detailed Jill Valentine's search for her partner Chris Redfield aboard an abandoned ship. The game was enough of a success to warrant a sequel featuring Claire Redfield and Barry Burton, and probably played a part in influencing Capcom to go back to a more terrifying experience with Resident Evil 7 than its predecessor, the action-packed Resident Evil 6.

Resident Evil: Revelations will release for PS4 and Xbox One on August 29th for $19.99, and later this year alongside Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for the Nintendo Switch.
