The Resident Evil franchise has always been known to innovate and adapt over the years. Each entry has tweaked gameplay mechanics, combat, and even tone. Perhaps most substantial is the different camera angles that the series has used. The original Resident Evil games introduced the iconic fixed camera angle style, which lasted for several games until Resident Evil 4's modern over-the-shoulder view. That style lasted for several additional games until another revamp came in Resident Evil 7 when the series went first person - a decision that came with mixed reviews from fans, but was still carried over into the game's sequel Resident Evil: Village.

Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil: Village were both made from the ground up with a first-person camera angle in mind. Both games feature set-piece moments that are best viewed up close and personal, but that's not to say that the games would not work with a more zoomed-out, third-person approach. This was proven when Resident Evil: Village brought the highly requested third-person mode to the game, allowing players to have the option to choose between the two camera angles. Now that the choice between different camera angles has been added, future games should consider the possibilities of this feature.

Future Resident Evil Games Should Have A First-Person Mode

As Resident Evil: Village, a primarily first-person game, was able to add a third-person mode and make it work well, third-person Resident Evil games should have a first-person mode. This would work well as a preset option in the game or even an unlockable mode after beating the game once. Future Resident Evil remakes have the opportunity to implement this feature at launch, but it doesn't need to stop there. A first-person mode could be retroactively added to games like Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 remakes.

Fans have already added this feature to several Resident Evil games of the past through modding. Through the impressive work of the community, players have been able to catch a glimpse of what it would be like as an official feature. It would be cool to see a first-person mode added to the third-person RE games with the full support and polish the games are known for. As it would only be an optional setting, fans could choose a preferred camera angle.

The choice between an over-the-shoulder third-person mode and a first-person mode would be great, but there is actually one more Resident Evil camera angle that could also be an option. The classic fixed camera angle would be very interesting to have as a selectable mode in modern Resident Evil titles. There have also been mods for Resident Evil 2 Remake showing how this view could work with the modern style of the game. Experiencing games like Resident Evil: Village,RE7, or even RE4 Remake with the original fixed camera would give them even more of a classic survival horror feel, completely refreshing the way the game is played.

The choice between several camera angles is something that could add to the game by implementing a layer of customization to the experience. Though understandably, some fans would prefer one option over the other. As long as the game is designed in such a way that multiple camera angles would still function properly, then having the choice would be a benefit to the fans. Capcom has implemented alternate camera angles in Resident Evil 5's Lost in Nightmares DLC successfully, where players can access the fixed camera angle view by investigating the door in the main hall. Seeing this feature fully implemented could be something interesting for Resident Evil fans to experience in the future.
