Claire Redfield made her debut in 1998's Resident Evil 2, but she's gone on to become one of Resident Evil's most recognizable and beloved characters to date, having appeared in a myriad of mainline and spin-off games. Unlike other protagonists like Leon and Chris, Claire doesn't start out as some sort of police officer or special agent. Instead, she is simply a civilian looking for her brother who disappeared during the Raccoon City incident.

The 20 Most Powerful Bosses In The Resident Evil Games

Resident Evil bosses have terrified gamers for years. While some of these villains are incredibly powerful, others are pretty weak.

Over the years, though, Claire's many encounters with zombies and B.O.W.s has turned her into a hardened veteran who has come out with her fair share of iconic quotes throughout the series' history. Claire has been known to be a pretty witty and sarcastic member of the cast, which is why so much of her dialogue has been fondly remembered, but she is also the source of other lines that are a little more impactful, and many of them go a long way in showing who Claire truly is as a person.

Despite it being pretty obvious that Claire and Chris are siblings, the games don't always do a great job of showing how close the two really are since they barely ever get any time to interact. It was implied in the original Resident Evil 2, though, that both of them grew up as orphans and that Chris taught Claire everything she knows in terms of handling firearms and hand-to-hand combat.

For the remake, Capcom made sure to emphasize this relationship a lot more through this line of dialogue, which is said to Sherry. Upon asking about Sherry's parents, Claire admits that it has only been her and Chris for as long as she can remember, which reminds players that, although Claire can seem like she's in high spirits a lot of the time, she has still had a far-from-easy life, and that was even before the zombies started appearing.

Leon might be known for being pretty sarcastic now and again, but another character who is arguably just as clever and witty with their dialogue is Claire. One popular example of this comes during the very first cutscene of Revelations 2, where Claire can be seen talking to Niel as he fills her in about Terra Save's newest recruit, Moira.

Claire Redfield is a fan favorite protagonist from the Resident Evil series, but her character has received quite a few changes over the years.

As he runs down the list and reveals that Moira is the daughter of series legend Barry Burton, Claire starts getting a little suspicious and asks him "What other horrible invasions of privacy" he keeps in his small booklet. Capcom has been known to alter their characters' personalities quite a bit between games, but with this simple line of dialogue, fans are reminded that Claire is still the wise-cracking badass she's always been.

Though they are split up for much of the game in Resident Evil 2, it's always a treat to see Leon and Claire interacting with one another during their desperate escape from Raccoon City. However, for the spin-off FPS title, The Darkside Chronicles, Capcom decided to double down on these sequences, allowing the two companions to have much more dialogue with one another, which resulted in more than a few iconic quotes.

One of the most memorable comes near the beginning of the game after the two have witnessed the destruction of the city first-hand and barely managed to reach the R.P.D. As a clever quip, Claire asks Leon what he thinks of his new job as an RPD officer, despite obviously knowing this has to be one of the worst first days in human history. It demonstrates that, despite how bad things can get, Claire is always there to lighten up the mood, even if it's in the most sarcastic way possible.

4 "Terra Save Was Built To Save People. It's In The God Damn Name!"

A Hilarious Quote That Emphasizes The Absurdity Of The Resident Evil Universe And Its Many Organizations

  • Resident Evil: Revelations 2

TerraSave has always been one of the more obscure organizations in the Resident Evil universe. Sure, everyone's well aware of Umbrella, S.T.A.R.S. and the BSAA, but even though TerraSave has made huge strides in saving victims of bioterror attacks, they don't always receive the credit they deserve. However, they do get a little more of the spotlight in Revelations 2, where it's revealed not everyone in the company is as honest as they make themselves out to be.

A new Resident Evil game is only a matter of time, but while waiting for a reveal or an announcement, check out a few of these similar franchises!

The biggest culprit of this is Neil, who eventually reveals himself to be a traitor who willingly turns on his comrades to retrieve a sample of the deadly Uroboros Virus, which Wesker almost unleashes upon the world in Resident Evil 5. Claire reacts to this with a line that probably wasn't meant to be as funny as it is, where she reminds Neil that TerraSave was "Built to save people," which is literally what the name refers to. This almost feels like Capcom acknowledging how forgotten TerraSave usually is while also having a little fun with the absurdity of the names that pop up in this series.

The Resident Evil games have become well-known for their tongue-in-cheek dialogue, but Code: Veronica is absolutely filled with silly quotes due to the more over-the-top and outlandish nature of the story. One of the most memorable comes at the end of the first half of the game after Claire and her new friend Steve manage to board a plane to escape from the zombie-infested Rockfort Island.

Believing that the nightmare has finally ended, Steve asks where they should go now that they're free, only for Claire to recommend Hawaii in one of the most random but hilarious lines in the entire game. The reason this line is a particular stand out is because it's said right before everything starts going wrong once the plane re-directs its course and crashes into an Antarctic base, which is also overrun with zombies.

2 "I Have No Idea What You're Babbling About"

Claire Says What Every Player Was Thinking Upon Meeting Alfred For The First Time

Claire in Resident Evil Code Veronica
  • Resident Evil – Code: Veronica

Out of all the villains that have made an appearance throughout the Resident Evil series, Alfred Ashford is often considered a lot less intimidating compared to his peers, especially since he's simply a human without any special powers or mutations. One thing he does possess, though, is the gift of the gab. He is able to talk for what feels like hours on end simply to brag about his prestigious social reputation and his wealthy ancestors.

The first time Claire runs into the psychopath, he immediately breaks into a monologue about how he rules the island and believes Claire was the one who launched the attack that has decimated the land. Despite being the main villain of this section of the game, Claire talks down to Alfred and claims she has no idea what he's "babbling on about," which easily gets under his skin. Not every Resident Evil protagonist will be brave enough to mock the villain on their first encounter, but Claire, who's certainly not shy about offending people, decides to do so in a pretty humorous fashion.

1 "I'm Really Glad I Met You Too, Sherry"

Sherry And Claire Grew To Become Lifelong Friends Due To Their Shared Experiences In Raccoon City

Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield And Sherry Birkin standing in the light at the end of Resident Evil 2
  • Resident Evil 2 (2019)

Not long into the story of Resident Evil 2, Claire meets a young girl by the name of Sherry who she soon comes to find out is the daughter of Annette and William Birkin - the scientists who had a hand in creating the G-virus. When Claire first finds herself trapped in Raccoon City, the only thing she cares about is finding Chris and getting out as quickly as possible, but upon meeting Sherry, she decides to do all she can to give this young girl a second chance at life by protecting her.

This specific quote, which is heard near the very end of the game, perfectly encapsulates just how much Claire cares for Sherry and how she is more than willing to put her own life on the line to keep her safe from the monsters who lurk in the city streets. It's a shame that fans haven't been able to see these two reunite since that game, but hopefully, Capcom can make this a reality sooner than later.
