The 2019 iteration of Resident Evil 2 is often dubbed by many as the definition of how to remake a classic. The latest title released by Capcom stayed true to its source material, while effectively fleshing out its characters and tightening its overall plot. The game also revamped the horrifying tyrant popularly known as Mr. X, now that it relentlessly stalks the player for a good amount of time.

Of course, it is important to remember that the 1999 title, Resident Evil 3, also introduced what would eventually become one of the most iconic villains in the Resident Evil franchise, Nemesis. Even back in the ’90s, Nemesis was already more terrifying than RE2’s Mr. X, given that Nemesis was able to run, fire a rocket launcher, and follow the player to multiple rooms, a feature that was only made available to X in the remake.

Now, given that Capcom already stated that a remake of Resident Evil 3 is possible if fans ask for it, some players went one step ahead and modded Resident Evil 2 to showcase how terrifying Nemesis would be on today’s graphics and technology. In a video posted by YouTube channel BeastGamingHD, a mod replaced the character model of Mr. X with its later mutation known as the super tyrant.

Although the model is not a recreation of Nemesis itself, the YouTuber carefully added audio cues to simulate an encounter with the S.T.A.R.S. stalker. Whenever the “Nemesis” opens a door or spots the player, the Nemesis soundtrack from Resident Evil 3 plays in the background and the monster yells out the famous “S.T.A.R.S.” line. To add to the fear factor, the “Nemesis” showcased in the video seems to be faster than Mr. X in the 2019 remake, and one can only imagine the terror of a revamped Nemesis that can run and fire weapons if the remake of the third game does happen.

All things considered, it is interesting to see how Capcom could re-introduce Nemesis to modern players once the inevitable remake of the third game sees the light of day. While Resident Evil 2’s Mr. X surely terrified both newcomers and veteran players to the franchise, it seems that X is just a taste of what is to come once Nemesis returns to Raccoon City.

Resident Evil 2 remake is available now for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
