Highlights

  • Lady Dimitrescu, a major antagonist in Resident Evil Village, has become a memorable character due to her unique origin and alluring design.
  • Capcom should consider bringing Lady Dimitrescu back in some form, such as in a crossover fighting game, to generate interest and provide a fun gameplay experience.
  • If not in a crossover game, Lady Dimitrescu could make an appearance in bonus Resident Evil content like RE: Verse or a new multiplayer-based game, or even as a playable character in a different franchise, such as Street Fighter 6 or Monster Hunter.

The eighth mainline title in the long-running Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil Village, introduced the world to an interesting new take on the traditional source material the series is known for. Seeing Resident Evil make its largest step ever into the world of mythology and folklore, RE: Village had players battling Werewolves, Mermen, Frankenstein monsters, and Vampires. First revealed during the initial hype cycle for the game was one stand-out Vampire in particular, the nine-and-a-half-foot-tall noble known as Lady Dimitrescu. She quickly became a major topic of discussion on the internet, gaining the attention of longtime fans of the series and attracting those who were not previously familiar with the games. Her role in the game was noteworthy but short-lived, and now that Village is over, she should make a return in another way.

Alicina Dimitrescu, better known as Lady Dimitrescu, is one of the major antagonists in RE: Village. She is one of the Four Lords that govern over the mysterious Romanian Village that serves as the setting for the game. In the lore, she was given her vampire-esc power as a result of experimentation by Mother Miranda, a cult leader who uses the Mold-infected parasite called the Cadou to subjugate her underlings. In the same vein, Dimitrescu uses the power of the Mold to create her own pupils. These become her three blood-sucking "daughters" that reign over Castle Dimitrescu with the Lady herself. Taking control of Ethan Winters, players get to explore Castle Dimitrescu and take on these monsters, but the legacy of Dimitrescu doesn't need to end there.

Capcom Should Bring Back Lady Dimitrescu

Lady Dimitrescu standing

Lady Dimitrescu was originally inspired by the Japanese urban legend and ghost story of the Hachishaku-sama the eight-foot-tall Yokai, or Japanese Spirit, that preys on children. Combining this inspiration with the look of Morticia Addams and 16th-century Hungarian noblewoman Elizabeth Bathory, RE: Village developers created a new take on the Tyrant enemy from previous RE titles. Because of her unique origin and alluring design, Lady Dimitrescu stands as one of the more memorable characters from recent Resident Evil games. She stands right up there with legacy villains such as Nemesis, Albert Wesker, Mr. X, and the iconic Tyrants, so Capcom should seriously consider bringing Dimitrescu back in some form.

Capcom is known for its frequent crossovers among its various franchises and IPs, having produced many crossover fighting games over the years as well as special in-game events and artwork. Resident Evil characters have had a substantial presence in these crossovers over the years, with characters like Albert Wesker and Nemesis even making it into Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. If Capcom made a new crossover fighting game sometime in the future Lady Dimitrescu would be an excellent addition. Dimitrescu's abilities would make for a very fun fighting game character, utilizing her retractable claws and massive size to do serious damage. Because she is still so iconic, her addition would also help build interest in the game, making it a win-win scenario for everyone.

If there is no Capcom crossover fighting game in the cards there is still an opportunity to have Lady Dimitrescu make an appearance in bonus Resident Evil content. Side games like RE: Verse or Resident Evil: Resistance were short-lived but perfect grounds to feature characters from across the RE franchise. Perhaps a refresh of RE: Verse or an entirely new multiplayer-based Resident Evil game could be a great way to add Dimitrescu as a playable character or boss. Even a return of a Mercenaries exclusive game like The Mercenaries 3D could include Dimitrescu as a playable character like she was in Village's Mercenaries mode. Alternatively, a Resident Evil animated movie focusing on Village's lore and Dimitrescu's origin could be an interesting way to keep her around.

At the very least, a Lady Dimitrescu costume pack in Street Fighter 6 or a new Monster Hunter would be something fun for fans to get their hands on. If Ryu can make his way into Exoprimal, then hope is not lost for everyone's favorite nine-foot-tall vampire. The only certainty for now is that the world needs more Dimitrescu.
