Jill Valentine is one of Resident Evil's most loved characters, and perhaps one of the most iconic protagonists in gaming history. Her role in the original game was truly ground-breaking for its time; she was the first ever playable female character in a horror game and has been portrayed as a total badass ever since. Jill has featured in a number of installments of the series, but which games has she appeared in exactly?

Resident Evil 2002

The original Resident Evil game was released in 1996 and remade just 6 years later. The story follows the Special Tactics and Rescue Service, or S.T.A.R.S., a group of ex-soldiers and scientists, who have been ordered to investigate Arklay Mountains after several people had fallen victim to dog attacks and acts of cannibalism in the area. Once there, half of the team goes missing, leaving the remaining few to search for them on the ground. It is there they are attacked by mutant dogs, leading them to flee to the nearby Spencer Mansion - the very place the horrors truly begin.

Jill Valentine is one of two playable characters within Resident Evil and a member of S.T.A.R.S. If chosen, the player will follow Jill on her journey in investigating the zombies, the Spencer Mansion and, of course, finding her missing colleagues. Players will also receive a lock pick, eight inventory slots, access to the grenade launcher, and battery packs upon choosing Jill's playthrough.

9 Resident Evil 3 (1999/2020)

Jill Valentine - Resident Evil

Resident Evil 3 is the third installment of the Resident Evil series, released in 1999 and remade in 2020. The plot follows the main character, Jill Valentine, as she attempts to escape the wrath of a relentless bioweapon made specifically to hunt down each of the remaining members of S.T.A.R.S.

In this addition of the franchise, Jill is accompanied by Corporal Carlos Oliveira, a mercenary for the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (or U.B.C.S.). The player follows Jill on her mission to take down a seemingly invincible Nemesis as well as attempt to save Raccoon City from complete destruction.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is an on-rails shooter game released on the Wii and PlayStation 3 in 2007. The game follows the same storylines as 3 of its previous games (Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis), this time through a first-person perspective narrated by none other than Albert Wesker; Umbrella Chronicles adds more detail to the original story, showing the events that lead up to Umbrella's inevitable downfall as well as explaining certain parts of the story in more depth.

7 Resident Evil 5

Jill Valentine Brainwashed By Wesker Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 is the seventh installment of the series, released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in 2009. This game follows Chris Redfield and his partner Sheva Alomar's investigation of potential bioweapon smuggling in Africa. Chris, however, has more reason to visit the town than just the mission - he's searching for a missing Jill Valentine, his former partner, and close friend who had disappeared after encountering Wesker.

Whilst Jill isn't a playable character in Resident Evil 5, she plays a huge part in its story. When she tackled Wesker over the cliff, she ended up injured. Wesker healed her, but as a result discovered that her body contained the very thing he needed to fulfill his darkest desires: the Uroboros Virus, a result of the T-Virus infection she caught from Nemesis. He realized he could use P30, administered through a device attached to her chest, to make her both superhuman and fully in his control - the very thing he utilizes to attack Chris.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D was released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011 and was essentially a mix of The Mercenaries mini-games featured in both Resident Evil 4 and 5, which had players having to defeat as many enemies as possible within a time limit.

The game itself doesn't really follow a story but still includes Jill Valentine as one of its base, playable characters. Players can also unlock an additional outfit for Jill by getting an 'S' rank in missions 3-5.

Revelations is Jill's final appearance as the franchise's main protagonist, likely due to the events of Resident Evil 5. In this game, she is sent on a mission to find her former partner, Chris, which ultimately leads her on a journey to uncover the truth behind a bioterrorist organization that plans to infect the Earth's oceans.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is a third-person shooter released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC in 2012 set at the same time as Resident Evil 2 and 3 but unrelated, and non-canon, to the main storyline. The plot follows two separate special forces teams: Delta Team is ordered to destroy any data that'd incriminate Umbrella in their involvement with the outbreak, whilst Echo Six are instructed to obtain said data and bring Umbrella down.

Jill doesn't play a major part in this game but does appear a handful of times. Initially, Echo Six finds Jill being chased by Nemesis and help her make an escape. Later in the game, Echo Six hear that Jill and Carlos are in trouble, Jill has been injured and infected by Nemesis. Echo Six come to the rescue, allowing Carlos to take her somewhere safe and treat her.

Jill doesn't play a part in either storyline, but she does appear in the mini-game 'Raid Mode', where the player must fight through stages to reach a set goal and level up both their characters and equipment, as a playable character, unlocked by obtaining 10 or more competition medallions.

2 Resident Evil: Resistance

Jill Resistance

Resident Evil: Resistance is an asymmetrical survival horror released in 2020. Given the genre of the game, there isn't necessarily a story that players can play through, however, there is some context behind why the humans are made to fight monsters: it's set in 1998 and civilians have been abducted by Umbrella in order to test the effectiveness of their T-Virus project - essentially, they must fight against mutants to survive.
