  • Fans should take all Resident Evil 9 leaks and rumors with a grain of salt for now.

Resident Evil 9 has reportedly been delayed and is no longer slated to be revealed during the summer, according to a notable Capcom leaker. The insider in question is the one who initially claimed that the ninth mainline entry in the Resident Evil franchise would be revealed imminently and target an early 2025 release, but if their latest report is to be believed, then Capcom's plans have seemingly shifted.

As the next mainline entry in the series, there's a significant amount of hype behind Resident Evil 9. Numerous leaks about the game have surfaced recently, like its aforementioned reveal and release windows, potential protagonist, possible open-world game design, as well as where Resident Evil 9 will be set. Fans are eager to see where the story will take them after the events of 2021's Resident Evil: Village, but unfortunately, they may have to wait a tad longer.

Rumor: Resident Evil 9 Leak Reveals Protagonist

A new leak reveals the possible protagonist for the ninth entry of Capcom's long-running survival horror franchise, Resident Evil.

Reputable Capcom leaker AestheticGamer previously claimed that a reveal for Resident Evil 9 is set to happen in summer 2024, with an alleged January 2025 release target. However, the leaker has walked back on that report, stating in a recent Twitter thread that fans shouldn't expect Resident Evil 9 to be revealed anytime soon, with the official reveal apparently "further away" than the upcoming summer. This update is a bit of a curveball, with the leaker now apologizing for the "back-and-forth" which previously arose when they specified that the summer reveal information was supposedly from half a year ago.

More Potential Bad News for Resident Evil Fans

Unfortunately, Capcom seems to be planning a later reveal for Resident Evil 9, maybe in the second half of 2024. In the same thread, AestheticGamer also claimed that Resident Evil 9's release window has been internally pushed to late 2025, possibly even 2026. This is a far cry from the originally rumored January 2025 release window, and will no doubt dishearten some. The leaker piled on the bad news further, stating that the recent rumors surrounding the Resident Evil 1 remake are false, and that it's not in "any form of development."

However, it's important to remember that these are ultimately rumors, and like with the previous iteration of this particular rumor, Capcom's plans could be different from what is being claimed. Despite the delay, though, the game's arrival is certain, and if the leaks hold true, Resident Evil 9 is poised to be the biggest entry in the franchise's history, allegedly backed by the largest budget and longest development cycle of any Resident Evil title to date.
