Resident Evil 8 was officially announced a couple of days ago, and fans could not be more excited. With a brand new setting, new enemy types, and the return of Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield, Resident Evil 8 is looking to leave a tremendous impact on fans of the series. However, new information has come out in support of the game originally coming to the previous generation of consoles and having VR support.

When Resident Evil 7 first released, it set a tremendous precedent for not only Resident Evil, but also the old-school survival horror genre. With only one game, Capcom was able to revitalize a bygone genre of gaming, introducing new players to its wonders and giving older fans newfound hope for the future of Resident Evil.

According to a reliable leaker, Resident Evil 8 was originally supposed to be a cross-generation game, meaning that the game would have come out on the PS4 and Xbox One as well as the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This would have been a great opportunity for those who still own the previous generation of consoles, but then again, plenty of things can change while a game is in development.

The leaker also pointed out that the game was supposed to have VR support, but now apparently doesn't. Though, as the leaker pointed out, a lot can happen during the development stages and some of these leaks don't always reflect the final product. A sentiment that can be felt with any and every upcoming title.

In case there was any doubt in terms of the validity of these leaks, the source that these recent leaks came from, Twitter user Aesthetic Gamer, has correctly predicted a number of in-game features prior to the reveal trailer. This includes the redesign of Chris Redfield, Ethan Winters being a playable character, and the location the story takes place in. That being said, all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt.

An important thing for fans to keep in mind is that all of these leaks are subject to change and that if the developers see the demand for something, such as VR or cross-gen support, then it's possible that the studio will add those to the game. In any case, with everything that has been said already, this latest installment is set to be perhaps the best and most gruesome game in the series.

Resident Evil 8 is set to release in 2021.
