Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be available on Apple platforms from July 2, Capcom has announced. It appears many more Resident Evil games will receive the same treatment in the near future as Capcom works to dodge PC and console restrictions. The industry is constantly evolving and developers are scrambling to keep up with all the latest trends, one of which includes portable gaming. Gamers on the go have limited opportunities to bring their favorite games anywhere without extreme gameplay limitations and extortionate prices for handheld devices. Capcom looks to make Resident Evil 7 more accessible to everyone, wherever they are.

Resident Evil 7 was released in 2017 and marked a turning point for the franchise as Capcom shifted focus to a new protagonist, Ethan Winters. With no Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, or Ada Wong in sight, it was a bold move for Capcom to substitute the main lineup for a completely new cast, but it paid off tremendously. Resident Evil 7 introduces the Baker family, who live on an abandoned rural estate in Louisiana. They are infected by the Mold, which is in fact a bio-organic weapon known as Eveline that presents itself as a young girl.

This will be the second Resident Evil game within the main timeline to receive a mobile version, after Resident Evil 4. Capcom also confirmed that iPhone, iPad, and iMac versions of Resident Evil 2 are in development. Resident Evil 7 will release on iOS devices on July 2 with an advanced console-mimicking UI and HD graphics.

Capcom Confirms iOS Versions of Resident Evil 7

If mobile users are satisfied with Capcom's efforts at porting the game to iOS devices, it might not be long before Resident Evil Village makes the jump to iOS as well. With Resident Evil 2 in development for iOS, it stands to reason that Capcom could have a whole library of Resident Evil games on the App Store before long. After all, Resident Evil 7 revived the franchise all those years ago, so the marketing hype surrounding an iOS release could easily apply to its beloved predecessors.

While many fans consider Resident Evil 4 to be the best old-school title in the franchise, Resident Evil 7 has marked the dawning of a new era for Resident Evil, which continues to hold its own against some of the longest-running franchises of the modern age. In a rare occurrence for video game franchises, Resident Evil has withstood the test of time by paying homage to the classics while also embracing new technology and changing for the better.
