Despite being sixteen years old at this point, the horror gaming community, and gamers in general, have begun talking about Resident Evil 4, especially as there have been some hints that an official remake could very well happen, yet the studio is not giving anything away. Given that the fourth installment is the most celebrated RE game in the series, it's hardly surprising that fans would like a remake or remaster. Until then, there is still the VR version coming, and recent developments now unveil a release date for it.

Back in April, it was announced that Resident Evil 4 would be coming to the Oculus Quest 2 at some point. Not much was known about it, but now a report from IGN says that this port will be coming to the VR headset on October 21. The report also links to a short trailer, which features some recognizable elements from the 2005 title, but obviously from a first-person, virtual perspective.

While the VR version of Resident Evil 4 will retain all the classic elements from the original, there is one major change that will be occurring. Players will now be able to access their weapons directly from their "virtual body" which will include being able to reach for health items. The puzzle items and the typewriter save points have also been given a tweak to incorporate the new perspective and interactive elements. While to some, it may not be quite the same as a remake, it will still hopefully provide a fresh take on one of the franchise's most popular entries. Of course, it does also mean that it's only exclusively for owners of an Oculus Quest 2. Whether additional VR ports will be made available has not been said.

At this stage, a potential Resident Evil 4 remake has been teased so much that it would be remiss of Capcom to not at least acknowledge it as a thing. It's possible that the company is actively working on one, but until official sources confirm this, all fans can do is speculate and sit with crossed fingers.

While RE4 VR is only exclusive to the Oculus Quest 2, it still breathes something of a new life into the classic. There are likely to be some drawbacks to it only being available to a relatively small subsection of the gaming community, but it will at least keep the game on people's minds for the time being. This, in turn, could continue to perpetuate talks about an official remake or remaster.

Resident Evil 4 VR will be out on October 21 for the Oculus Quest 2.
