Tokyo Game Show is an annual gaming convention that takes place over several days in mid to late September and hosts major gaming studios like Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and many more. Released in March of this year, the Resident Evil 4 remake was one of the most highly anticipated games of 2023. Ever since Capcom started with the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, fans had been looking forward to the chance at an updated experience with what is often considered one of the best games in the series. The original release of the game has long been lauded as one of the most revolutionary action games in video game history, and Capcom has shown its dedication to the Resident Evil franchise with the RE4 remake, a game it is continuing to support with the upcoming PlayStation VR2 port. Capcom will reveal more details on the VR mode, along with other key game updates, during its Tokyo Game Show online broadcast on September 21.

This is the second official Capcom VR port for a Resident Evil game. At Tokyo Game Show 2022, Capcom offered an exclusive first-look and testing booths for Resident Evil Village VR Mode. Both Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 have their VR ports provided via PlayStation VR 2. Previously, a fan-made VR mod of the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 was the only way to play as Leon S. Kennedy in virtual reality. Having an official VR port of RE4 bodes well for extended fan experiences with the iconic game.

With this upcoming announcement, it seems likely that Capcom may be focusing more heavily on developing its future franchise releases for VR. It is also apparent that Capcom is partnering closely with PlayStation specifically, focusing closely on PSVR2 for its Resident Evil VR ports. While VR gaming is still limited in popularity among gaming audiences, it is nice to see Capcom continuing to diversify its content offerings to satisfy as many fans as possible.

Resident Evil 4 (2023) is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
