The Resident Evil 4 remake received a mysterious new update on Steam, which could suggest that Capcom is making changes to the game ahead of a potential announcement. Although Capcom has not outlined DLC plans following the launch of the Mercenaries mode, Resident Evil 4 is still missing the Separate Ways scenario that many fans enjoyed in the original Nintendo GameCube title.

Resident Evil 4's remake was rumored for multiple years before its reveal in June 2022. The remake would release nearly one year later in March 2023, becoming one of the fastest selling games in the entire Resident Evil franchise. Once more, players would step into the role of Leon S. Kennedy as he attempts to rescue the U.S. president's daughter in a rural Spanish village. Resident Evil 4 makes several gameplay improvements, introduces new features, and changes some aspects of the original game's story and structure. Most notably, the Separate Ways scenario is not included with the remake, but leaks suggest it may be revealed before the end of 2023.

According to SteamDB, the Steam version of Resident Evil 4 remake received a mysterious update today, implying that the game's application and package have been altered by Capcom. The changelog suggests that multiple game files were being compiled and added to Resident Evil 4 this week before the update was deployed. Moreover, the Steam version's change number was also updated to reflect the change in files and resources in Valve's database. Although this particular update does not outright confirm that new DLC is coming, it may fuel speculation leading into Capcom's Tokyo Game Show 2023 showcase later this month.

Resident Evil 4 also received multiple Steam updates prior to the release of the Mercenaries mode, which is available for free to all players. After the release of the free DLC, Capcom introduced a subsequent Resident Evil 4 update with hidden achievements and trophies, causing fans to speculate further about new DLC in the form of Separate Ways. The exclusion of Ada's campaign is one of the most notable points for criticism about the remake from fans of the original Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4: VR Mode is currently in development for PlayStation VR2. This new DLC will be free to PlayStation VR2 owners who also own the remake on PlayStation 5, and the available Resident Evil Village VR Mode could serve as useful preparation for diehard fans. Capcom has yet to share information about future Resident Evil releases after VR Mode launches, but the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2023 showcase appears to be the perfect opportunity for Capcom to make some notable announcements.

Resident Evil 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
