The recent remake of Resident Evil 4 has already crossed an impressive sales milestone, reaching five million units sold. The game was released earlier this year to strong opening sales and positive reviews from critics. Now the remake of Resident Evil 4 has become one of the fastest-selling games in the franchise.

The Resident Evil 4 remake was originally revealed in mid-2022. The trailer for the game suggested that the remake would have a darker and more serious tone. While this was certainly true at the game's start, it gradually became goofier and campier as it went on and was more akin to the original than the trailers initially suggested. Now it appears that this formula has clicked with players as the game has already hit a big milestone.

According to Capcom, the remake of Resident Evil 4 has already sold five million copies worldwide after being out for four months, making it one of the fastest-selling games in the franchise. For comparison, it took Resident Evil: Village five months to reach that point while Resident Evil 7: Biohazard took roughly eight months to reach a similar amount. The last game to reach this number was Resident Evil 5 which remains one of the best-selling games in the Resident Evil franchise.

From the start, it was fairly clear that the new remake would be a massive hit for Capcom. Early on, the Resident Evil 4 remake outsold the GameCube version at launch and cleared four million sales in the first two weeks. The game has also been incredibly well reviewed on Metacritic with the average scores hitting the 90s across multiple platforms. It is also likely that these sales will continue to climb as the publisher isn't quite done with its latest Resident Evil remake.

Early on it was clear that Ada Wong's storyline in the game would be sold as DLC. Her story was originally made available to players after they had completed the main game and detailed what she was up to while Leon was trying to rescue Ashley Graham and how she helped him from a distance. Leaks from Capcom have suggested that the Separate Ways DLC for Resident Evil 4 will be released sometime later this year. If so, it is possible that the game could see a new surge in sales around that time and may become one of the best-selling games in the franchise before the publisher moves on from it.

Resident Evil 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
