The only way to increase the carrying capacity of Leon's Attaché Case is to progress the story and visit the Merchant during certain chapters. The further players progress, the more items the Merchant will sell, but those who wish to upgrade the Attaché Case will need only seek him out to buy Case Upgrades.

Buying a Case Upgrade in Resident Evil 4 remake

When purchased, Case Upgrades automatically increase the overall carrying capacity of the Attaché Case, allowing Leon to carry more than what he was initially able to. There are four Case Upgrades available to purchase in Resident Evil 4 remake.

Case Upgrade (7x12)

The Merchant outside the Abandoned Factory in Resident Evil 4 remake

The first Case Upgrade available in Resident Evil 4 remake can be purchased from the Merchant outside the Abandoned Factory at the beginning of Chapter 2. It grants Leon a total of 86 carrying slots and costs 10,000 Pesetas to buy.

Case Upgrade (8x12)

The second Case Upgrade can be purchased from the Merchant on the northern path leading away from the Quarryduring Chapter 4. It grants Leon a total of 96 carrying slots and costs 20,000 Pesetas to buy.

Case Upgrade (8x13)

The third Case Upgrade can be purchased from the Merchant in the Grand Hallduring Chapter 9. It grants Leon a total of 104 carrying slots and costs 36,000 Pesetas to buy.

Case Upgrade (9x13)

The fourth and final Case Upgrade can be purchased from the Merchant just east of the Wharfduring Chapter 13. It grants Leon a total of 117 carrying slots and costs 64,000 Pesetas to buy.

In order to fully upgrade the Attaché Case in Resident Evil 4 remake, the player will need to reach Chapter 13 and have acquired 130,000 Pesetas during their playthrough. If players are struggling to amass the funds needed, they should examine Leon's inventory to see if he has any gems or treasures available to sell.

Though some players may feel they do not need too much space to fit their weapon loadout, upgrading the Attaché Case will allow them to store even more healing items and crafting materials, making each upgrade worth the price.
