While fighting enemies in RE4 remake, players can choose to use throwable items like Hand Grenades and Flash Grenades to kill and stagger Leon's foes. Though the Hand Grenade can dish out some serious damage, the Flash Grenade is even better when used in certain situations.

What Does the Flash Grenade Do in Resident Evil 4 Remake?

Leon throws a Flash Grenade in Resident Evil 4 remake

When thrown, the Flash Grenade will briefly stagger nearby enemies. This can be extremely helpful for when players feel Leon is being surrounded or if they simply want to stagger an enemy in order to dish out some easy damage. To make the most out of the Flash Grenade, players should only use it when facing large groups of enemies, as using one against a single foe isn't nearly as effective.

During the opening chapters of Resident Evil 4 remake, players will likely come to rely more so on Hand Grenades than Flash Grenades. This is largely due to how powerful Hand Grenades can be, but players will eventually see how important Flash Grenades are when they face the Plaga Guadanain Chapter 4.

Plaga enemies in Resident Evil 4 remake

The Plaga Guadana is an enemy that, when defeated, releases the Plaga hiding inside them. When this happens, Leon will need to focus his attention on destroying the Plaga protruding from the necks of his enemies. While a few well-aimed bullets are sure to bring these enemies down, a single Flash Grenade will kill them instantly.

Leon will face several forms of this enemy the more he progresses, so players should save whatever Flash Grenades they acquire and only use them when they feel they have no other option. Using a Flash Grenade to kill three Ganados at once will also unlock the Shield Your Eyes trophy/achievement.

That said, Leon can also unlock the ability to craft Flash Grenades in Chapter 3.
