Once players reach Chapter 7 in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, they'll be forced to make their way through a large castle. This section begins with a tense battle against a group of cultists, including archers, and some painful fire-imbued catapults. Once players manage to free the Canon and make their way through the front door of the Castle, they'll sit through a short cutscene that introduces the sinister Ramon. Once players regain control of Leon, they'll be tasked with traveling further into the castle. This puts them on a path to a dark dungeon and a battle against a mini-boss known as the Garrador.

After Leon defeats the Garrador and rejoins Ashley, the pair will climb up out of the dungeon and make their way to the Treasury Room, where they'll be met with a locked door and a series of murals depicting a knight. This puzzle seems a bit confusing at the start, but it's actually quite simple once players know what to look for. Here's how to complete the Sword Puzzle in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

How To Solve The Swords Puzzle In The RE4 Remake

Once players enter the Treasury, they should walk over to the barred door flanked by large stone murals. In some of these murals, there are still swords present, but they're in the wrong slots. Because of this, players should grab the swords from each mural on the wall (there are a total of 3) to place them into their inventory. The last sword, unfortunately, lies beyond the large locked metal gate in the same room.

Thankfully, opening the gate is quick and easy. Players should head to the lock on the gate (which depicts three symbols, a snake, hawk, and deer). Directly to the left of this lock, near the corner where the wall meets the gate, there is a small pull chain that Leon can interact with. Tugging this chain will cause a gong to sound and illuminate the Deer Insignia on the lock. All players need to do in order to open the gate is aim through the bars and find the gongs that contain the missing symbols (the Hawk and Snake) and then shoot them. Both symbols are located on the right side of the room and players won't need to strike the gong on the left side of the room beyond the gate as it's not part of the solution. Once all the symbols are lit, the gate will lower and players can retrieve the last sword.

With four swords in hand, players need to head back to the murals and put them in the correct order. The murals follow the story of a knight as he begins his career, is knighted, fights in a battle, and then eventually perishes. Players should place the swords in the correct spots corresponding to the story. For those struggling for the solution, here is the order of the swords starting from the left mural and moving to the right:

  • Iron Sword
  • Golden Sword
  • Bloodied Sword
  • Rusty Sword

Once players have slotted all four swords in the correct order, the small gated door will open.
