The Chicken Hat in the Resident Evil 4 remake is a protective accessory. It reduces Leon’s received damage, helping him survive more enemy attacks. Like the Deer Antlers, the Chicken Hat is an end-game item rewarded to the player for beating the campaign with a high rank.

But unlike most other apparel, getting this hat requires starting a new game and ditching all NG+ perks, which is why many players need help finding it. With that in mind, here’s everything RE4 players need to know about unlocking the Chicken Hat in the 2023 remake.

How To Get The Chicken Hat In Resident Evil 4 Remake

To get the Chicken Hat, the player should beat a New Game on Hardcore difficulty in under five and a half hours. This will give them the S+ rank, making the Chicken Hat available in the Extra Content Shop for 2,000 CP.

Getting an S+ rank in NG+ will not grant the Chicken Hat because playtime carries over to the New Game Plus .

How To Wear The Chicken Hat

After buying it from the Extra Content Shop, the Chicken Hat becomes available via the Extras menu. To wear it, the player will need to go to the Extras in the main or pause menu, select Leon’s Accessories, and confirm the hat.

Once equipped, the Chicken Hat needs to be removed from the main menu. There’s no way to take it off mid-game unless the player saves the game, quits to the main menu, changes it in the Extras tab, and hops back in the game.

How The Chicken Hat Affects Leon

As a protective accessory, the Chicken Hat reduces Leon’s received damage by up to 50%. Its function is comparable to Body Armor, the bulletproof vest that boosts HP. But unlike the vest, the Chicken Hat requires no repairs, giving Leon permanent protection.

The Chicken Hat works only for Leon and does not affect Ashley’s health.

Is The Chicken Hat Worth It

Getting the Chicken Hat is worth it, especially for players looking to 100% the game. Because the hat boosts Leon’s HP, it makes him less reliant on recovery items, facilitating the gameplay for getting achievements like the Frugalist and higher ranks on Hardcore or Professional difficulties.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
