With a mysterious voice ringing in their heads and a hoard of Ganados bearing down on them, Leon must secure Ashley’s safety by any means necessary in Chapter 5 of Resident Evil 4. In the midst of a vicious storm, players will have to escort Ashley to the Villa on the other side of the Village, encountering plenty of enemies along the way.

This guide will shepherd players through the fifth chapter of the Resident Evil 4 remake, beginning in the Church and ending in the Villa.

The chapter opens with Leon and Ashley on the second floor of the Church as Ganados burst through the door below them. Unable to head back down, take a right along the balcony and boost Ashley up to reach the attic ladder; climb up and exit the Church through the window.

Following a short scene, drop down a ladder leading to the back of the Church where Hunnigan will call Leon and provide him with an extraction point beyond the Farm. Once the call ends, head around the Church and move the fallen cabinet out of the way.

Here, players are introduced to Ashley’s escort mechanics in Resident Evil 4. Both in and out of combat, Ashley can be commanded to stay close to Leon, helpful for running past groups of enemies, or told to hang back, which can be useful for tackling groups head-on. If Ashley is grabbed, Leon must rescue her by interrupting her abductor before she is taken too far away.

Whether engaging with or running past the Ganados in the Church graveyard, head downhill and back towards the Village Square.

Passing by the Merchant, head through the Town Hall and take a right outside, dropping down the ladder in the well. Down here is a patrolling Ganado that Leon can stealth kill before heading up another ladder at the end of the tunnel.

Exiting out into the Village Square, there are a large number of Ganados patrolling the area that can be taken out through stealth or open combat. Whatever the choice, once the fighting concludes, enter the two-story house on the left of the Square where players may have earlier acquired the Shotgun.

On the second floor is a torch-wielding Ganado to deal with. Once that’s over, vault through the window and use the newly formed ramp at the rear of the house to circumvent the collapsed tower. Up ahead are two more Ganados patrolling the path to the Farm.

Back at the Farm, a number of Ganados will be hunting Resident Evil 4’s deuteragonists, including a Cowhead that can threaten to instantly down Ashley. Should she be put into the Incapacitated state and attacked again, she will die, and the game will enter a failstate. In this fight, be sure she keeps her distance while using Leon’s most powerful arsenal on the many foes that will attack. Be wary of the animals in this area --they will ram anyone who gets too close.

After clearing out the area or running past the enemies, head through the large gate toward the Lakeside Settlement. Cross the bridge where a cutscene will trigger, and Luis will invite Leon and Ashley into the building ahead.

Once the scene ends, Leon and Luis will be tasked with fighting off the hordes of Ganados attacking the house. On the table, Leon can find some Wooden Planks that can help block one of the windows, slowing enemy infiltration. Leon can also block a window with a bookshelf in the corner of the room, achieving the same effect. Occasionally, fallen enemies will also drop Wooden Planks for Leon to use.

Make use of both floors of the house, looting and shooting at any intruders, making sure that the house doesn’t get overwhelmed with enemies. After a time, a cutscene will trigger of villagers approaching the Villa with ladders, indicating they can now enter from the second floor. Join Luis upstairs and keep kicking the ladders down to slow the Ganados' approach.

With some more fighting done, another scene will show a Cowhead Ganado breaking in downstairs. Dodging his giant hammer and circling the Villa, keep hitting him with grenades and strong bullets until he falls, and Ashley bursts in, signaling the duo and ending this hectic chapter.
