The remake of Resident Evil 4 brings out a new feature to help Leon drop more enemies: The aim assist. With this setting, the crosshair automatically snaps at or locks on the nearest target’s weak spot, cutting the player’s work to just shooting.

But there’s a catch: The aim assist is only available for the Assisted and Standard mode. And, players want to know if there’s any way to turn it on in higher difficulties. Luckily, the RE4 remake has two tricks for getting the aim assist in Hardcore and Professional, too.

RE4 Remake Aim Assist Explained

The new aim assist is an accessibility feature in the RE4 remake that locks the weapon sight on enemies. Depending on the type, the aim assist either moves the crosshair over the nearest target’s last location or locks on them and follows their movement.

The aim assist won’t work for animals, concealed or out-of-sight enemies, or valuable objects and treasures. It only locks on enemies that are in sight.

There are two types of aim-assist settings in RE4:

  • Snap: It shifts the sight over a nearby enemy.
  • Snap and Follow: It locks the sight on one target and follows them around.

So long as the player can see a target, Leon turning his back to them won’t stop the aim assist (He will automatically turn around and aim at the target).

How To Turn On The Aim Assist

To activate the aim assist in the RE4 remake, go to Options > Controls > and select “Snap” or “Snap & Follow” under the Aim Assist Type tab. But note that it’s already activated in the Assisted mode.

The aim assist can be deactivated at any time by toggling it off under the Aim Assist Type tab in the Options menu. The change won’t affect the progress, rank, or achievements.

Increase the Aim Assist Max Speed to boost the setting's effect on the gameplay.

How to Get the Aim Assist in Hardcore and Professional

There are two ways to turn on the aim assist in Hardcore and Professional modes. The player should either increase the Reticle Deceleration in the settings or wear the Gas Mask accessory. Reticle Deceleration improves aiming, and the Gas Mask unlocks the aim assist for higher difficulties.

Wear the Gas Mask

Players who want aim assist in Hardcore and Professional modes should equip the Gas Mask. This apparel allows the wearer to activate the aim assist in all difficulties without affecting their rank.

To get the Gas Mask, beat the campaign on Professional difficulty.

Increase the Reticle Deceleration

Go to Options > Controls > and set Reticle Deceleration to 30% or higher. This will slow down the crosshair over the enemies, making it easier to lock on them. At 100%, the Reticle Deceleration is identical to the aim assist. And the good news is that it’s available on all difficulty modes.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
